Where's local then? You might be able to find folk on here to train with to help you get to that start line.

Harrogate way.
Plenty over that way. Try hooking up with a couple. Will make the long road back more fun.

Hi flopsy,
Best of luck with your comeback.
I too am re-starting fell running, trouble is that I never really got going before I stopped so it feels like starting all over.
How long do you reckon it will take before you get your fitness back? (I know, how long is a piece of string etc..)
I'm hoping if I manage to get out a few times a week that I'll see an improvement by xmas, not up to racing standard of course.
I didnt even have an injury as an excuse, just shifts been changed at work so less easy to get out, plus partner has been major busy at work, kids had one illness after another, had a new kitchen put in etc etc and the dark evenings on the road don't help either,. Then once I haven't been for a few weeks I get demotivated. Anyway, I'll put the violins away and get my arse into gear instead. I am going to buy some road shoes this weekend so I can get out in the evenings.
Keep us updated in how you get on.
Save the money you'd spend on road shoes and buy a decent headtorch, that way you can run off-road in the evenings. Your fitness will come back quicker and you're less likely to get injured during your comeback.
IMO If you're basically healthy, just out of condition, then your biggest battle happens between your ears. Win that one and the body battle will be an easier one.

For a return race why not try a Brett special or similar midweek race next spring. At most short races there are a fewer slower runners and everyone is made welcome.
