    Returned beginner!

    Just saying hi.

Come back after a long time off both the forum and running.

Hoping (fingers crossed) that this is not yet another false start and that I can actually come back to fell running properly this time.

In the meantime, I'm pretty unfit and more than just a little terrified at the thought of entering my first fell race in about 18months.

    So, hi and be nice

    Re: Returned beginner!

Hi Flopsy, welcome back. I'm also a returner - started again in August after an 8 year absence. For the first few weeks I thought that there was no hope whatsoever of racing for at least a year.

I'm now getting target races into my sights for early 2010. The big accelerator was joining a club - or joining the right club. Club nights with the Lonsdale Fellrunners are now a key part of my comeback and it's going better than I ever hoped. It was pretty daunting turning up for the first time but I got stacks of support that was very matter-of-fact and never patronising. Just what I needed to begin to believe again.

It may not work for you, but I hope this helps you to get back into an amazing sport that's full of inspirational people.

Flopsy go for it - just get in there. Obviously, nowt that's beyond your capabilities, but entering a race really does focus the mind, in my experience.

Yep, that's how I got into this mad sport - I entered an AS race for my first real experience

Flopsy, by any chance were you at Wycoller yesterday talking to Steve & Richard from Clayton in the car park after the race? It's just that that lady was also talking about a return after quite some time away.

If you were, I was the fella stood with them.

    Re: Returned beginner!

    Nope, wasn't me I'm afraid.

The trouble is I know just how damned hard these races are and the painful memory of coming last when injured still haunts me!!

Know I've just got to take the plunge and go for it again but I just keep telling myself ' no, not fit enough yet.' I'm so unfit compared to how I used to be and it will take an age to get back to fitness.

Probably help if I knew someone local to drag me along to a race but I don't.

It's the thought of standing at the start and then everyone else rushing off at speed and leaving me standing, which they will do I have no doubt. Need to be mentally prepared for that and I'm not yet.

    What a wuss I am!!
