Something we've evolved to find pretty natural. 95% of training should be just that. Most of us (me included) aren't good enough to warrant worrying too much about the technicalities of different training techniques. So just get out there, run, and see what works for you.
Hmm, does this mean that training ain't rocket science or brain surgery, just plain and simple hard work and effort, oh, and enjoyment
Good post HHH, keep it simple and just get out there

Don't be daft mate, I'm sure you've got it right for you.

I hope you enjoy your run

Trainer harder at first, then train smarter!

Says me, lounging about on a Sunday morning!

I tried various strategies, then found this year that doing lots and lots and lots of races worked really well for me :-)

2 races a week (mostly short), no hill reps and hardly any long runs.

Joe, from the sound of it you already had a fairly good base fitness level before you adopted that regime?
Well, I got out for a run today - not around the moor tops 'cos I'm not a big fan of running in very strong wind, but along a canal, up onto a littler bit of moor and round that, then back along the canal. The 'up' bits nearly done me but I enjoyed it and that's the main thing!

It certainly wasn't the option for starting out, but I've always been a bit over optimistic when it comes to running! There are many completely different methods for getting fit/faster, but at their heart I think all methods are based upon you trying hard!

...And another very windy run today, on the moors, a bit up and down and into the wind: I found it really hard but both me and the dog got completely lathered in mud so it wasn't a total waste of time!
    Nearly six and a half miles, 3 - 4 walk breaks, about 1hr 15ish.

Good stuff PB. Just think of all those who looked out the window tonight and said "naah, not tonight" Days like this will pay off some day soon.
