    hoad hill and birkrigg common would make good training areas, hoad being a shortish climb but fairly steep (go straight up!)
    birkrigg hosts one of the kendal winter league races. talking of races what better motivation than trying to catch the person in front its also a good way of gaugeing your progress, races are a great way to train but enjoy it all wether in the crowds or on your own.
    kirbymoor, coniston, broughton mills, blackcombe fells not to far away.
    fell or trail it all beats pounding the roads!
