    Re: Gisborough Moors Race

Last year we had a snow shower and strong northerly winds! What a contrast yesterday. I've never seen so many runners start to walk the last uphill on the moor up to Highcliff gate. Apparently even some of the top runners were walking. Anyway a great turnout.

    Re: Gisborough Moors Race

Hard, very hard. The sun was relentless and there was very little breeze. Seemed to really hit me on Great Ayton Moor and thereafter. Never been so dehydrated and suffered for it later on.

Did anyone else get lost in the woods on the return leg? The main path through woods (Cleveland Way) forked and it looked very much to me like the red and white tape was indicating the downhill (left) turn rather than straight on. And, in fact, looking at the map now the left path does seem to be the right one. I must just have made a wrong turn in the final wooded section. Only cost me about 10mins tho.

Wore my trail shoes in the end, good choice too. As some have said, some of the ascents/descents needed the extra grip.

    Right what's next, Hamsterley Forest?

Wore my "Road Racing "shoes in the end .Very fast and dry start ,first time i have run all the way up the first wooded climb, it is usualy wet through ,you end up slipping all over and resorting to walking .
Having said that i have never walked up the last climb onto high cliff but everything had tied up and to Maggie Thatchers qoute "ther was no alternative".
I had an idea i was on for my target time at high cliff so i coulndnt let up , even though the finish is downhill i had to dig realy deep and was totaly shot at the finish.

    Gisborough Moors

Walshes or Wave Harriers? I'm guessing the former, given recent weather, but would appreciate any local advice.

Same thoughts as me, i'd normally wear my Inov8 trail shoes for this one but.........probably wearing Walshes after todays rain.

I will take both and decide on the day.

There's a mile or two on road & tracks but it gets very muddy and slippy in the woods where its quite steep, and if it continues raining tomorrow it could be fun on the open moor
