I can't stand running with a stinging throat and i've never managed to deduce why it happens, too hard too fast? lack of running?
Got it double bad today cos i've got a cough too, really smarts and had to walk a bit. BTW i smoke a bit too.

Luke Appleyard (Wharfedale)- quick on the dissent
Have you tried breathing in and out through your nose? Yeah, you can't run as fast but if you try it while warming up and give it time it becomes a bit more natural. Helps also if you're breathing into your belly rather than simply gasping freezing air down your gullet! You might need a slower pace initially but just back from a run in the snow and my lungs and throat feel good - used to always rip the bejaysus out of them unti I took up yoga and realised recently I'm breathing alot more full for a given effort and running way more relaxed!
Probably best leaving the smoking til after the run too
