    Today's cricket

I thought I'd get this started in anticipation of the frenzied interest surrounding England's test matches in South Africa.

India vs. Sri Lanka ODI today. India made 414! Sri Lanka look set to beat it, although they've just lost Dilshan (160 of 124 balls).

    Amazing game.

No, apparently SA and Australia went higher in 2006:

One Day International Series: India v Sri Lanka
    15-12-2009 at Rajkot
India beat Sri Lanka by 3 runs
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to field
    India Innings
    414 for 7 (50.0 overs)
    Sri Lanka Innings
    411 for 8 (50.0 overs)

Great recovery from Inida in the last 7 or 8 overs. It looked like Sri Lanka would win easily. How I would have loved to have been at that game.

I'd be interested to hear the reasons behind this decision. Perhaps he should have listened to WG Grace on this one:

'When you win the toss – bat. If you are in doubt, think about it, then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague – then bat.'

I thought SL were going to win it with 3 overs left. They needed 21 and had two (relatively) set batsmen. It must have been a great bowling performance from India at the death.

England win the toss and put South Africa in to bat

(Graeme Smith says he would've batted anyway).

1 down, but the pitch isn't doing much. Could this be another chance for me to use my WG Grace quotation?

So come on then, who's your money on. I'll say SA will make 300, England will make 400, then SA will be helped by the rain and narrowly avoid defeat.

N.B. Any predictions made much later in the day lose credibility as events unfold.

Hmmm. South Africa are making a bit of a recovery. I'll go with the opposite of what you said with England clinging on.
