    Thanks Ian,

    I have a couple of problems/queries:
    1. I don't have a waterproof jacket, only a cheap windproof one that has been OK for me so far.
    2. I don't have windproof or waterproof trousers - was thinking of buying the Innov8 Mistlite or the Montane Featherlite, would I be better off buying waterproof trousers?

I am just getting in to fell running and won't be doing that many races a year so want to make sure I don't go over board with my spending.

Buy the best waterproof jacket you can afford and the cheapest waterproof trousers.
Its your life in the long run, and the kit is to help save it.

If budget is tight and you cannot afford much then get cheap taped seams waterproof trousers and a waterproof jacket with taped seams and a hood.

You will then have the body cover for pretty much any race you want to do.

My first set of waterproofs were £30 for jacket and trousers from TK Maxx so hardly breaking the bank.

No I'd go for a better waterproof top and buy a £6 cheepy waterproof O/T from a bargain shop. You'll hardly use the pants.

check out OMM forum for good discussions on kit and what to buy label wise and quality wise....after this years OMM it was a good reminder that skimping on kit is not a good idea...also, a few years ago in a local race there were loads of people - top end runners and others setting off in very cold and windy conditions in basic kit who sacked the race after first mile (of 13) as they hadn't got the right weather gear!

    Mickleden??
I was sat on Wilfrey Edge, injury kept me out of race, for rescue team.
Snow was blowing up to us, it were great, WITH THE RIGHT GEAR.

Depends what type of race you plan on doing Davemac, and when it is in the year. Generally you will get away with a windproof cover but, as Bluebike says, look at the OMM conditions this year and think of the consequences if teams had skimped on gear.

Thanks again for the advice, have now sorted myself out with a montane jacket and Innov-8 trousers.

All I need to do now is keep my training up so that I am relatively fit!!
