The other contender was Andy Tibbets ( based in central Scotland ), his background is more that of a very strong walker / Munro-bagger; but he has been doing some ( none comp ) running over the past couple of years. The drenching over the Glyders, added to the reduced pace due to the injury, meant that he was in the initial stages of hypothermia at Ogwen. With the monsoon downpour continuing unabated, heading out onto the Carneddau would have been unwise. He's young enough and those Welsh mountains aren't going anywhere.

Out of interest, what is Simon's age, please? He certainly had a good "mobile windbreak" with him for crossing the Carneddau; we must have witnessed about 10 companions set forth with him up Pen Yr Olwen

To be honest, time is not a factor for a standard PBR. When he set up the round Paddy did not stipulate a 24 hour time limit. Even if over 24 hours, completers ( one continuous journey ) are on the official list. Obviously people do set themselves a personal target of 24 hours, as per BGR & CRR. In Andy's case, going for an extended PBR record, the 24 hour time limit would have been crucial as the bench mark for that record. Due to the injury, he had abondoned his record aspirations by Pont C'aer Gors and was then aiming for a standard round. Alas the vagaries of the weather.

Simon Daw's of Mercia Fell Runners Reputably became the oldest runner to complete the Paddy in under 24hrs. (23.45) Fantastic effort in very testing conditions. Once again Ant and Jon were faultless with their navigation. Simon was strong through out. Great support allround and a great weekend

not sure of his surname but Andy also set off at 11am saturday attempting and extended round to include all of the Welsh 3,000s. He was going along really well but sustained an injury when taking a bash on the leg on rocks. he battled on but finnaly called it at day at Ogwen when time dictated he wouln'dt make it. tough luck Andy and vey noble of you to wait at Capel to welcome Simon back. im sure you will make it next time out.
