    Not actually a new bike....

Appears to be a bit of a "Feet in the Clouds" for cyclists...

    Justified...due to price and opportunity!!

Kona Jake £175....I actually paid him MORE than asking price of £150 as I felf guilty and he is a neighbour!! Not sure what year but its got the Profile 2 forks and canti's. Upgrades include carbon seatpost and 'frogleg' canti's!

Can't wait to get out on it...now I need to actually justify it by actually riding it!!

I think that it will be a few years old if it has the Profile 2 steel forks. A friend of mine bought a new "Jake the Snake" in mid 2005, fitted with the Profile 2 but he did upgrade to a carbon fork - a ?'Colorado'? from Paul Milnes, IIRC.
From what I've seen, from spending far too much time 'drooling' in bike shops, all three models - the basic 'Jake', 'Jake the Snake' & 'Major Jake' have had carbon forks for several years and they all now have disc brakes.
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

Yes Wheeze. I think its a 2010 version. Might be worth considering that carbon fork upgrade at some point. Had a very short blast up the road this a.m. and loved it! First 'modern' road bike I've really owned. My present road bike being a Telfer 653 made to measure tri.TT bike with pre-index Campag. I was finding the gearing 52/42 and 11-26 tough out in the Dales as I tried getting back into cycling. I had been using my Orange Prestige with road tyres and more road gearing but found it too sluggish. The Kona actually brough a big grin to my face! Problem is I've already started wondering what an average priced carbon road bike feels like.....!?

On the right road, like a ******* rocket ship

This after having taken my plastic fantastic out after a winter on the Crosslight, initially I wondered what was wrong until I realised the bike was surging forward in response to pedalling. Although if I'm honest I'm quite convinced by some of these bigger tyres all road options. Too many of the rides idea involve rough linking paths and scraggy back lanes. I think something like a Genesis Datum would be a good shout.

There's some genuinely fantastic road rides in the options, but the lack of road per sq mile mean you often find yourself on poor surfaces to avoid bad roads, the A9 being the main culprit for me.

And so, the cycle of buy buy sell buy continues

A fixie that I finished assembling last weekend, mostly from bits that I'd had stashed in the loft; had to splash out on:- blasting & powder coating (£45), headset, 1/8" chainring, chain & sprocket, bottom bracket (shorter axle for correct chain alignment), rear wheel, tyres & tubes and bar tape.
Ridden it for 35 miles - it rides and handles beautifully.
