Re: Bit of help and advice
I run in innov 8 roclite 315's s
Got them from sweatshop a chorley, find them really comfortable, good grip and a bit of cushioning :)
Re: Bit of help and advice
If you were an equipment tart, you would have a grand selection of shoes for every weather and surface (and plenty of money to buy them).
If you were a simple fell runner you would have one pair of knackered re-soled Walshes, for every weather and every surface.
The balance is probably somewhere between the two - put what you are comfortable with first, and then experiment.
Re: Bit of help and advice
Always difficult this, everyone seems to swear by different shoes. You might need to try a few before you find some you like (flipping expensive though).
My first fell shoes were walshes, but I hated them (I forgot you need to get 1/2 size bigger than normal, but it felt like running barefoot). I then got Inov8 Mudclaw 330's - I loved these because they seem to be a cross between a proper fell shoe and a training shoe. Lots of protection for a fell shoe but with the grip of a walsh.
When I do routes in my Trail shoes now, I feel really "unprotected" and often slip - I love the Mudclaws as they seem to grip to anything.
Got mine from the great man himself - http://www.peteblandsports.co.uk/tro.../397/index.htm
Re: Bit of help and advice
Oh yes there are lots of people who swear by inov8s...
and lots of us who swear at them.:D .

That's the whole point. That's how a good fell shoe should feel.

Yes, not sure what I meant there. I seem to remember it felt like barefoot for the first run, it all went wrong after the first wash (i did wash them properly, probably).
Can't say the Inov-8's quite feel like barefoot; maybe like having very big ballet shoes on. Not that I'd know what ballet shoes feel like of course. ;)
Re: Bit of help and advice
Walshes are the only thing that REAL men (and women) wear wear...no comfort, too tight and stick to anything....been good enough for the masters for the last 30 years, so who am i to question them!
Re: Bit of help and advice
No matter how good they are on the fells, I don't hink Walhes are great if you are doing a mixure of trail and roads though. It depends on how much tarmac you are planning on pounding (I am an equioment tart!), but the Mizuno Harriers have some great reviews and would be well worth a look. Some of my running friends swear by Montrail shoes as well. Best thing to do is to go to a decent running shop and trying on a selection.
