Free's cheating! :D
Hard to beat that unless anyone knows of a race that *pays* you to enter.

Re: Cheapest race (per mile)
All the park run races are free too.
Elite athletes get paid to enter races.
Re: Cheapest race (per mile)
Blencathra - £1 and for that route and those views a cracking bargain.

Luss Highland Games, pay you to enter events & there are 2 hill races, a local race & an open race.
Re: Cheapest race (per mile)
It's too simplistic to just look at the number of miles and the price. I think that the value of a race to a runner is a combination of mileage, ascent, and goodies. Goodies include cake, beer, tee-shirts, etc., and the quality of the goodies is important too. You could also include the quality of the route and the atmosphere.
I think one of the best value races is the Anniversary Waltz, given the mountains of delicious cake and beer as well as the 12 miles and 4000 ft ascent. What do you think, GeoffB?:D
Re: Cheapest race (per mile)
Muker show paid everyone a fiver this year. Can anyone do better than that?
