Cut off dates for age groups

Hi

Is it age on the day for age group categories eg- U12, U14 etc or are there dates in place ie- age on 31 July2011 (that sort of thing).

Appreciative of any help.

Vast majority of FRA races including the junior championship are age on 1st January. There is an FRA junior age group calculator here. There are other rules; see FRA website
Other series e.g. BOFRA are age on date of first race.

Races which have an FRA Permit and associated UKA insurance must comply with the "FRA Rules for Competition" which state:-

RULE TEN
Race organisers must stipulate age limits for their events but the following maximum distance limits for juniors must be observed.
Ages are as at 1st January in the year of competition.


For FRA Fell Races, the minimum age for competition is six years, and the following distance limits must be applied.

Under 8 - ½ mile (0.8k)
Under 10 - 1 mile (1.6k)
Under 12 - 2 miles (3.2k)
Under 14 - 3 miles (4.8k)

Under 16 - 4 miles (6.4k)
Under 18 - 6 miles (9.6k)

Except these age limits dont apply to short British Champs races whereby those in power are able to over ride and change the rules to please themselves

Al - I'm not sure what your snipe is aimed at - is it relevant to juniors?

Indeed it is we had hoped to have some of our juniors race Devils Beeftub as it was advertised as min age 12 and only a 2 mile race but low and behold the minimum age is now 16. Shocking

But they have junior races over the same course, so what's the problem?

The problem was that we as a club were looking to have a couple of juniors to run for the senior team a real chance to be part of the senior event. Simply running over the same course in a junior race doesnt give them a chance to score for the seniors.
