It's no great loss. Competitive conkers is awash with performance enhancing drugs. Err, allegedly :closed:
And the wages they pay are just ridiculous!!!
There are rumours going around that one well-known international refused to 'conker' recently. He claims he didn't and it was all a translation problem but I'm not convinced :closed:
I blame both the management and the players really. Too much mollycoddling for my liking!!!
It's been going downhill since they introduced synthetic string in the 70's
The introductions of goggles, gloves and protective fencing was also partly down to the demise of the sport in my opinion.
Oh for the days when a few folk met up at the side of the road with just a paper bag full of wind falls and held an impromptu conker match with no real rules or regulation, before nipping into the pub for a few beers to refresh themselves. It's just not like it used to be in the good old days :closed:
