Hi,

Martyn - Legs 1 and 2 completed, leg 3 going well :-)
Go Martyn!
Hang in there:)
Best of luck with what remains Martyn:)
Thanks for the update...I hope he manages it!
I know my leg 5 Navigator was recce'ing last night and he said the constant rain was horrible and that when he was coming down off Robinson he slid on his backside a few times! Sounded like it might have been an idea to just go for the slide down..
No news on finishers but i can confirm it was pretty appalling conditions. ro6er was a little down on leg 3 when him and moorlander turned up into Lords Rake, he was still chugging along mind. Pacers on leg 1 had lots of 'fun' with the river crossings, with several washed away/refusing (sensibly) to cross, not aware of any significant injuries.
Most amusing moment of the day was when my Collie got given a navigator's kitkat on leg 3, as punishment for the navigator taking the contender to the same top twice. The contender looked less amused, I'd have had a strong temptation to only mention the "43rd peak" in the pub after. We had a number of moments when we were retracing steps to get ourselves back where we should have been, it was one of those days out there.
Talking of navigation. Whilst stood near the bottom of Lords Rake a walker came past. Quo Vardis? (where are you going?) "Am I near Ill Crag?" Erm no, by quite a few hills!? Turns out he was aiming at Seathwaite, but was far closer to Wasdale. There were at least 2 separate incidents for walking parties needing more than a little guidance. Which certainly didn't help our contenders cause. I then dealt with a further 2 on my return across the leg. Though my apologies go to the two ladies, whom I helped navigate across Ill Crag, I then gave them a false info pointing them towards Great End, hopefully they realised my error more quickly than I did (the ground going the up should have been pretty obvious.) I'd descended about a mile and a half before knowing the error of my ways.
Deep respect to any contenders. Successful rounds more so. The 50 at 50 looked to be going well too.
Unfortunately Martyn pulled out at Pillar, absolutely awesome just getting there in those conditions. I supported him on leg 2 and can confirm conditions were terrible, clag, driving icy rain, wind and sodden trods. I was knackered after just one leg (brilliant navigation by Andy McCraken) but he was 4 minutes down on his schedule at Dunmail. Conditions remained awful for the rest of his attempt and he was 40 minutes down when he reached Wasdale due to very slow progress over boulders slippy as ice at Bowfell. By the time he got to Pillar he knew it was impossible to make sub 24 and sensibly pulled out. This was more like a Winter round weather wise! Gutted for him but I know he'll be back to complete soon. Well done mate.
I'm gutted for you Martyn. But the weather will do what it has to do. Keep positive, your fitness will keep for weeks. You will get another team together soon and you will complete it.
Bad luck Martyn: it was the weather, not you, so Simon's right - go for it again as soon as you can organise.
