People fishing on the canals
In my opinion nothing looks more depressing than a bloke covered in green cam coloured waterproofs with a little tent and bits and bobs next to a canal on a rainy day.
Their little hexi burners flickering away heating a cup of measly tea that in no way compensates for the depressing scenario that they find themselves part of. :w00t:

I haven't fished for years. I think the "nothing looks more depressing..." is a bit OTT but I do think canal fishing is pretty boring and I've always found it strange how someone can get excited by a 12oz roach.
Now a Nile perch, that's something else!!
I would perhaps say nothing is more depressing that someone sat at home on a Saturday afternoon, starting a thread on the fell runners forum about canal fishing :w00t:

Probably they were using fishing poles and they took one look at you Danbert and decided you wouldn't be nimble enough to hurdle them ;)
