Haille Gebrassalase ran 21,285m in an hour today to break the world record. That averages at 68 secs a lap!! he also broke the world 20k record along the way in 56.28 or thereabouts. Phenomenal running from someone who looked like he was past his best the last couple of years.

I suspect he only had a crack at this record because his manager, Jos Hermens used to hold it. That said I'm glad that he had a crack at it, and beat it.

Regards the marathon - it is a shame he didnt try it 10 years ago when setting 10K records. He could have done something astonishing then
