Who are fell running's FONs.
This pertains to cycling but it made me wonder, who are the FONs in our particular corner of the sporting universe? Those who dominate without necessarily being blessed with talent or outstanding physical attributes, but who prevail by force of will.

Ali Brownlee - obviously has talent but his force of will is immense. You can see from the way he races that he dishes out a relentless battering until either his rivals or him are destroyed, almost always it's his rivals who crumble first. One of his races from the 1st year he won the worlds will always stick with me, where him & Javier Gomez kept trying repeatedly to break each other with huge surges, amazing stuff and he eventually broke him on a slight incline to take the win.

I must admit, I thought of Rob Hope. In particular I think it was when he won Kilnsey...there's a Wharfeego video on youtube...and he's asked beforehand "Are you going to win again today Rob?" and he just says "Yeah". In his interview afterwards he talks about still having Grasmere in his legs...and another race in a couple of days so he just decided to batter the climb so that he could get far enough in front of Ted Mason to save his legs on the descent. Astonishing self belief.
