Second life
Attachment 6871Attachment 6872Attachment 6873Attachment 6874
do not know what happened exactly (came off push bike) but I ended up in hospital with a head injury which has scuppered my running for at least the next 6 months. looking beyond that i am going to need a helmet with face protection.
So my plea is for any advice on a helmet for fell running in. We had started taking my lads out running at night so would love to join my mates and lads later this year- trouble is i must take my second life with care so need to find a suitable lid.
i was wearing a cycle helmet but it seems i missed the lid and hit the road with my face.
bmx helmet? usa football lid? hurling/ lacross helmet?
any other ideas please welcomed?
cheers guys.

Re: Second life
Oh you poor thing!! Take care of your second life, you are lucky to have it! Hope you find a suitable hat and get well soon x

Re: Second life
Where are you trying to protect specifically? And I don't mean "head", I was meaning more like "the front, just above my eye" or something like that.
That will have a large bearing on what type of helmet you should get. And I guess you want a light one.

Re: Second life
I would have though a hurling helmet would be ideal That is a quick sport with a small ball so field of vision is very important, which is exactly like fell running.

Re: Second life
How about something like this? https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/i...asCsQaMyV3qDHg
Which I think is a softball mask which would protect the facial area and looks pretty lightweight, doesn't protect the head though.
Head protection for this type of thing is always hard to spec, we've struggled for a couple of years to find a suitable protective helmet for some guys at work, as they move around a lot, pretty much anything causes head/ neck pain.
Hope this helps and you get back to it soon.

Re: Second life
Morning all. what a fabulous day it is. bright sun, no wind an a slight frost enough to firm the turf below you feet!. Thanks for the replies. IUve just managed a 10 min walk down the lane to look at the snow clad hills. lovely conditions for you all to be out and about.
I need to protect the left cheek and eye socket. my left top teeth have a crack in the skull through the mouth's roof, the damage has mashed the left sinuses, which are only paper thin, then up through the eye socket to the left corner of the left eye brow. i confused myself trying to work that description out !
basically the left of my face from top side teeth to left temple. the bones will heal well before my brain can take any running impact. it is bruised and takes months to settle down. i will start walking long distances after 6-7 months if given the go ahead. the helmet is for confidence that any accidental knock doesnt catch the left side of my face and knock me out again.
the mycrosport hurling helmet does seem to give the best profile face guard doesnt it. american football lids look rather insulated for their winter season. i presume i would be protecting against accidental knocks rather than a complete crash so the lighter hurling helmet might well be a good option. bike polo helmets seem to be a collection of home made ones based on ice hockey lids- to well insulated for hot fell running. It is proving very difficult to get advice on protecting the face so thank you for your help. http://www.mycrosport.com/

Re: Second life
Here is one with a bit more face protection http://indoorxtreme.co.uk/shop/head-...ard-black.html
Dipped foam headguards are fairly light and cheap but a bit sweaty.

Re: Second life
