Generic HRM chest straps

I've lost the chest strap for my Forerunner 220. Does anyone have experience using a non-Garmin replacement strap and monitor?

Is it Bluetooth? I bought a chest strap off eBay for a suunto for about a fiver, works fine.

In the end I bought a CooSpo HRM H6 off Amazon for £20. It's Bluetooth and Ant+ and connects quickly and seems to read reliably.
