Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobble
If near Wrexham tomorrow don't forget about this race. Based at Llandegla mountain bike centre with the benefits of the excellent cafe.
I will be there, but whether I'm going to race, blow-up, jog round or marshal I'm not sure yet.
Details;

It's not too taxing, but remember your kit.

Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
I'll be there. It'll be my 4th race in 5 days, Did it last year and it was fun, hope to do better this year though.
-
Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
I ran this last year. It's a great way to bring in the new year of running and show yourself how unfit you have become over the Christmas period. (Well, it is the case for me :( ).
-
Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
Looks good as long as the course doesn't include too much fire break road. How strict are the organisers on equipment (map, compass, etc)? States on fell runners link,no kit,no run !! Seems pretty strict for a race on border of status,Short/medium and B/C !!
Did i not mention i can't find my compass !!!!
-
Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
.....and how are you supposed to mark up a map when there's no clue as to where the course goes!
-
Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
I'm nothing to do with the race, however last year I carried windproof coverings & a whistle during the race.
If in doubt give Ben or John a bell, their numbers are on the link above.
See ya there Dom.

Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
Good point,it even says the course has changed from last year,so your can't even ask/remember from last year,or compare times either.Hope they don't go silly with non essential rules, not a A cat and weather looks ok.Great location for a race mind, with cafe and good parking(at a cost mind)

Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
Great start to 2008.
Thanks to Yvonne, John, Sandra, Jenny, Ben, Tim, The girl with the hangover & everyone else for making sure we went the right way.
Give me a couple of weeks to shake of my cold & I should be ready for the Dash In The Dark series;

Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
Thanks Fell Runner so glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoy organising it, only after it's over!
For others the reason why I put No, Kit, No run, is cos its a b cat race, but to be honest it's not a full on fell race, but runners need to be aware that the weather can change and I need to be seen to play by the rules. It's not much effort for runners to at least carry a windproof top and tie it around your waist. So many didn't though this year, so I will get tougher next year. Be warned Mr Norgrove! :o It's not fair on those who do carry kit and may have to stop for someone who hasn't bothered. Thanks to all who came.

Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
:D Thanks to All at CRR for a great race:D
Really enjoyed myself even though it highlighted just how unfit I am;)
-
Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
Cheers Jordan, good day out.
wrt kit you're quite right to make sure that people come prepared, it can be nippy & exposed during the race. I did however ask John if there were any kit requirements before the race & he didn't think it was necessary so I passed this on to Gary who also didn't carry kit.
See ya for the Dash In The Dark series.

Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
I've got to say that was one of the best trail races i've done.It had a bit of everything, fast trails, technical climbs and descents and well organised. Not sure why the great concern about runners getting lost was all about,i could have closed my eyes on some of the descents and the excellent taping off would have funneled me in the right direction ! Thanks to all who organised and marshalled, looking forward to the dash in the dark series now.
Just a final thought about kit,i agree that all runners should come prepared for bad weather(especially in Jan)and that a decision either way should be made on the day....which it was.:D
-
Re: Cyrn y Brain Hangover Hobb
what a great race! will make sure I bring the kit next year though, fair comments about that.
will definitely recommend this to our club runners
results anywhere?>
thanks for organising the best marked out race i've run in all year!

!
WFRA rules on safety are essentially the same as FRA - anyone in any doubt about rulings on safety requirements should look at section 9 in the FRA Safety rules:
http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/pdf/com...quirements.pdf
The important bit to understand is the last paragraph re hypothermia!! This can happen in midsummer let alone early January
2 days before the Hangover Hobble at the top of Moel Famau there were 27 runners waiting for the off at our downhill race - an hour beforehand it had been warm and almost sunny down in the village but low cloud and rain rapidly swept in and by the time we got to the top some of the competitors were already looking hypothermic - I'm going to insist that next year they carry kit!

Cyrn-y-Brain Hangover Hobble
Gonna give this a go on New Years Day seeing Auld Lang Syne is full.
Fri 1st Jan 2010
Cyrn-y-Brain Hangover Hobble. 12 noon. 6 miles/800ft
from Coed Llandegla Forest Visitors Cenre on A525 7 miles west of Wrexham.
See www.wfra.org.uk for more details.
Mostly on Forest trails/ mountain bike tracks etc.
Brilliant cafe at visitors centre. Biggest bacon butties on the planet.
Organisers request you carry waterproof top. Last year it was very well organised & lots of marshalls so map/compass etc was not needed.

Re: Cyrn-y-Brain Hangover Hobb
My prediction Pinno....will be cancelled.I know the mtb centre car park is closed due to ice rink like conditions and with more snow (tues) and no increase in temps forecast it will be called off.
Hope not but be prepared.

Harrymoon was telling me last night that he spoke to the organiser and its looking very doubtful it will go ahead.

IMPORTANT:Hangover Hobble 2010
Hi All
Mr Monty and I have been out this morning to have a jog around the course. Although there is now a couple of inches of snow on the trails, the ground the manageable underfoot, if you're careful.
However, the centre is still closed and after talking to the owners, they can't see it re-opening this side of 2010. Although it pains me, we'll have to cancel the race. My apologies :(

Brill, going to turn up if I can get a pass from the family. Great way to start the year :-)
-
Re: Clwydian Hangover Hobble
Congrats to all who finished today. My first time for this one and my 3rd fell race altogether; I thought the course was excellent, the variety of terrain really exciting and that final descent was incredible!

Re: Clwydian Hangover Hobble
Is The Hobble on this.......I mean next year?
-
Re: Clwydian Hangover Hobble
Apparently not on next year, perhaps in 2014.

LLandegla NYD race
I don't suppose anyone knows if the race up to the masts from Llandegla is on this new years day by any chance? Nothing on the website. Really enjoyed this one a couple of years ago, despite feeling proper rough.
