New Sutton Pinnacles Race 2012
This race is taking place at 4pm on Sunday the 17th of June.
It is 9km and not that steep.
It is my third year of organising and I am hoping that it will be the best yet.
Last two years have been out and back, this time it is circular - going over the moor, after the Hitchingstone and down Sutton Clough.
Information and route description is on www.kcac.co.uk
There is also a map, which will be on there in a few days. I can email a copy to anyone who wants one.
Reccys of the route are taking place - Saturday the 9th of June, at 10 am, and Wednesday the 13th, at 7pm, both meeting outside the King's Arms, in Sutton.
All welcome,
Camille

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
This is a great route. I've actually been on a reccee.
Some nice felly moorland with curlews and everything.
The Aire Valley has some great running around it.

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
I have to say this route reminds me of the school cross country course where I used to hide umder the bridge with the smokers. I'm often back imto the Sutton/Crosshills area and one day it will coincide with this race.

bigfella you were very lucky to have that as your XC route, although I guess it didn't seem like it at the time. Was the smoker's bridge in the Clough?

Given it's a 4pm start, this Fell Pony may appear over the horizon for this:thumbup:

No, it was under the bridge just up the beck from the Holme Lane. I don't think the route went right upto to the pinacles but you're right in retrospect I should have enjoyed it.

Re: Sutton Pinnacles Fell Race
Is this 9K as in the first post or 7m as listed here?? http://kcac.co.uk/kcac-events/sutton-pinnacles/
I reckon 9k is about right for my comeback after 3 years out of anything longer than 5k. 7 miles probably isn't!

How do you know there wont be z beer station at the top? It may depend on who's marshalling and who gets there first surely?

If you both do this race, I'll pedal the 20 odd miles to it, the day after a BG Support, run it, have a couple of beers and pedal home slowly.
Or I may come in the car:o

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
I'd love to have a crack at this (permission pending!) as it does seem reminiscent of one of stanners or kiddo's old xc routes...does it follow a similar route to the old crosshills gala fell race?

I don't know why it says 7m, just ignore it. I will get it changed; I'll give it a few days before hassling Brett again, as I seem to have been making changes to the race info, on a daily basis.:)

Bigo yes it does and it was that which gave me the idea. Neil and Richard Tillotson used to organise that race. I think it went straight up to the pinnacles, from Glusburn. I read about it in the Rob Grillo book. I was asking the Tillotsons why they didn't organise it any more (too busy and maybe issues with road closures), so now I have a go, on their behalf. Was the Crosshills race out and back?

Stanners was always quite popular, as I remember. Didn't see it myself.

PE teachers.
You know, sadistic, like inflicting pain on people, making them run fast.
Sound familiar?

As memory serves it started from the school playing fields, over the road and down to the 1300 bridge, up a path (through the fields and the lions share of the course / climb) to a road crossing followed by a short steep section of fell to the salt (or pepper - could never remember which) pot before a good fast descent back the way you came... Prob 18+ years since i last raced this so not not a great description (seem to remember some time following dave woodhead in his horwich colours!) that makes me feel OOOOLD.
Stanners & Kiddo were very much old school PE teachers - looking back it's hillarious the stuff they got away with, but i always loved PE / Outdoor pursuits. Not sure they'd have faired so well in this day and age!

I enjoyed PE and loved Outdoor Pursuits at South Craven.
I did OP with Mr Ainsworth. I think we were really lucky to go off in the minibus for an afternoon every week.
I can remember making snow caves in Malham and been given a grid ref to go and find an, "injured" class mate who we then had to stretcher back to school. We loved it.
Many of the experiences inspired me to do what I do now.
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
I think OP was just getting started when I wass there, we were the second set of sixth formers through the school, rock climbing every Wed afternoon if I remember correctly.
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
There's a group of us having a run round this tonight. Meeting 7 pm outside the King's. All welcome. Probably go to the pub after, seeing as we're close.

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
macali - would it be ok to bring blue to run round at the back with me? also do you have a min age as I think the Boy might like to join in!

Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Anyone else planning a Cononley - Pinnacles double this weekend? Or even a Buckden - Cononley - Settle - Pinnacles quadrathon??? :w00t:
Is Buckden - Cononley achieveable in an afternoon?
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
Done Bucken/Cononley combo several times.
I'm planning to run Buckden and then timekeep Cononley so easily achievable.
You coming up Dom?
-
Re: New Sutton Pinnacles Race
I think so, and if I am I might as well make it worth my while!
