I am doing this if I can still walk after Ennerdale the weekend before.
Watch out for the bogs.
It is one of my planned races.
Just don't let Marko anywhere near them;) .
I'm probably going to do this one. Anyone got a map?
Hoping to do this race as well, but have to overcome ballet exam and farthers day fun!
Im planning on having a trot round, I could also do with a map.
my harveys (not so) Superwalker only covers the side of the race to the east of the road crossing
You just need the 1:2500 OS Dark Peak. You can't use the Harvey's as i's chopped at the A624 which the Kinder Trog crosses at the end of Monks Road and at Peep'o'Day - everything to the west will be missing.
You basically steam off up Swallowhouse Lane to Sunnyside and then up to Lantern Pike summit, drop down and across the Lime Field, past Blackshaw and Matleymoor farms to Monks Road. At the end of this cross the A624 to pick up the well reinforced path over Burnt Hill and past the old Liberator to Mill Hill. From then on it's the Kinder Downfall route, except you drop down to the gate at the top of Jacobs Ladder before following the flagged path over past Brown Knoll to South Head. Then tracks take you down to Peep'o'Day and up past Whiterakes to Big Stone - then its over to the bridleway at New Allotments, and finish almost like the Crack Edge race except you keep going to return to the finish at Hayfield Scout Hut.
Mileage used to say 18m, now says 16m (which is more like) for same route.
Good race.
RP
I had a run orund the route last year with Swoop, its a nice race.
Cant remember if I did my self a map or relied on Colins local knowledge.
He also took me for his usual post race feed and a pint. Cant remember the pub.
Am I right in saying the end of the race almost runs through someones back garden.
You must be local - I've only heard 1 or 2 others call it the 'Lime field'
This is the old route. After Kinder Low you head for Edale Cross, cross over the bridleway & head down into the bottom of the infant River Sett. (Beeline for South Head, virtually). Then a steep climb out of the valley back onto the old route. You don't have to go over South Head (although Lloyd did last year & still set a new record) - just skirt round it.
SteveT normally comes along around now & posts a map of the route. I seem to remember Phil W. & a few others last year drew a sketch map of the route on the back of their race numbers!
Profile is here but ignore the bit over South Head. The race stays on the bridlepath through the col.
Yeah - take it easy, like you did on the OCT:D
Thanks for the map also.
May see you therre Geoff and good luck with the BG.
If my running goes well when I'm away I might have a crack at this. What's navigation like?
Will be having a stab at this one
though after supporting a BG attempt (first leg) on friday evening, and planning to do the Trunce the day after, i dont think i will be going at it too hard
I'll be taking it easy as well. Doing Great Hill at Brinscall the day before.
Is anyone actually racing it ? ;)
I'm gonna go like a bat out of errr...
I'll race it if it's not too cloudy and I can see where I'm going. Never run round there so what the hell, we'll see what happens!!!!!
I envy you all! Trying to get back in slowly after injury....had hoped the Trog would have been an ideal Father's Day treat! ;)
Alas, not to be....maybe next year......
Having racked up a first at the weekend (i.e. getting lost on a myriad of forest tracks at Alwinton) can anyone reassure me that I can't go wrong. Have studied the map and it looks relatively straightforward but that's what I thought on Saturday !! With a 500 mile round trip I would look very stupid repeating the same mistake.
i could well hop round this after buckden on the way back home
i nearly got lost last year somewhere but a dark peaker rescued me
I'm doing both too. I'll be trying not to get lost on either day ;)
So what are the chances of staying dry then??
