It snowed on me last night! Headtorch on= blinded. Headtorch off= blind! Very quiet though.
:( I wish i could go running in the snow - unfortunately living in the middle of a city means the pavements are made of ice right now (so consequently walking is a problem let alone running :D ) and I couldn't get the car out of my road last night either
BOOOOOO!
Sounds good though :)
So at 6 last night I was ready to fire the stove up, get some butties and turn on the news......then a vision, I only live once........
Out on the MTB at 7 last night up on the moors above Hardcastle Craggs, Widdop and Colden....fantastic. Blizzard, up to my knees in places (hey, I'm not that strong a rider!), fell off a few times, but it's funny falling into the snow. Tracks mostly about 6 inches of snow, with much deeper in places.
Head torch a must for the drifts. Home at 2130 did I see anyone, no, wonderful.
An experience I shall never forget.
Good job I didn't stop for a rest/kip on top of Heptonstall moor = RIP.
Isn't that what life's about tho, challenges and experiences that will stay with you for the rest of your life?
I was gutted, I put off running last night in the snow coz fifth gear was on and thought I'd go in the morning, went this morning at 5am looking forward to it being nice and quiet and it had all gone, we had more snow yesterday than I can ever remember falling in Manchester before but it rained in the night and washed it all away:(
Should have done what Clive did and recorded the telly:o
Just booked a flexi thursday aft hope it doesn't melt by then !
ran in the snow at a night race in lothersdale with the headtorches really good fun maneged 9th place bearing in mind i had done the kwl(kendal winter leauge) day before with over a 100 feet knacked now but worth it :) :D
Did 6 miles on snow yesterday aft. It was great! The only problem is that you don't know what lies beneath!? It's fun but has serious injury potential
Going out tonight. Safer off road. Too much ice on the black stuff.
Did 10 miles this aft with Sunnysideup up and around Pinhaw and back. Fantastic.
Scott - no sign of any stud marks from you lot last night! Good run by the way, I was the timekeeper.
Did 8 or so off road in the snow round by us this pm. Wonderful.
Just done 1 hour ski-skating in Hyde Park and then the top of Woodhouse Ridge in Leeds. 10-15cm of snow on top of woodhouse moor - wondeful stuff.
Not sure why but I seemed to get loads of funny looks from people...
Anyhow, the big question is: Is there enough snow for me to ski the 3 peaks tomorrow? A snow report from the area would be much appreciated.
Just over an hour in the lower Chew, drifts on Bradbury lane (path into Plantation) well above waist height...pretty much knee deep from Plantation to Chew res track and then some nice easy running down to Doves Res and back home....Nice colours as the sun was setting...Great stuff :)
Bowland bat run this Thursday night from Langden Intakes, up Hareden, over the moor into Bleadale, down to Langden Castle and down Langden valley. Should be great if there is snow!! :D
You missed a cracker last night!!
Snow due in the Midlands on Thurs night - yippee!!:D
Just done well over an hour on the moors. Lovely night for it. Some amazing drifts which had to be dived in to! One of them nights where I could run all night long. Didn't see anyone which made it even better.
Did a loop round Hawksworth and Reva this afternoon; there was only one other set of tracks, on my route but in reverse. Did any other forumites venture out that way? I'd say my mystery runner is pretty good, certainly strong. He/she wears Walshes (size 9 and half), has at least a 34 inch inside leg (two of them in fact), and is susceptible to knee problems...
Living in the south this snow's been a real novelty!
Did a 7 miler in the Chilterns to the station yesterday morning in crisp, deepish snow with the sun rising to give a colour washed pink sky and - absolutely beautiful and just regretted I couldn't have just carried on and on!
Thought I was going to get slushed out on the way home from work, but the rain turned to snow as I got to the Chiltern esacrpment and then stopped, so had another fantastic run back home on the crisp stuff with clear, starry skies and a half moon - hardly needed my headtorch!
Brilliant! Hope we get some more -beats the hell out of the mud I usually have to run in!
:D

he isnt a formite but would be chuffed your saying he is pretty good.
i went over baildon moor today and it didnt take long to get out of breath, ran a few direct lines over rough stuff and found the snow a great cushion, over my knees in places.
feet frozen solid when finished.
taking pack through st ives with head torches tomorow, hope still a bit of snow to aid visibility

Just run home from Bingley up Altar Lane.Very hard packed ice but soft stuff at edges and more & deeper nearer to Long Lee.Have fun.
Boo! Just spotted sole hanging off wave harriers.Need to get glue out before saturdays Rombalds Stride!
Went out on Tuesday evening with the Glossopdale night owls, up over Moorfield along the Pennine Way and then onto Kinder. The wind must have drifted the snow up against the end of Kinder as we couldn't find the usual rocky path up to the cairn, knee/waist deep all the way. Re-discovered our childhood by just hammering back down, falling and rolling like kids, probably not too smart but fantastic fun.
Followed the flags from Mill Hill to Harry Hut for about 100 yds then everything was buried, snow and heather till we got back!
I wish I had joined you now, I was a bit cream crackered after a day of sledging.
When I was out Tuesday night in the snow with a group of like minded mad people I noted that everyone else was wearing gloves, full leggings, woolly hats etc. I was still in my shorts, short sleeved top and waterproof jacket and I was boiling. Had to take my hat off! Strange how different people feel the cold or not.
I seem to have lost my Porelle Drys..................the missis might have hidden them.
brings to mind the local psychological association when theywent for a run in the snow. I've never seen so many Freudians slip!!
Done lothersdale monday, great fun. Did a bunny run today up on penniston hill, still storming. want the snow to last, getting quite attached to my fel shoes now.:)
t'other half confused the local chavs and old folks by running past them on his way to meet me from work on the packed snow pavements, all made possible by his inov-8s.
still waiting for PROPER snow here though...the natives are all skiving to go sledging with their kids, but the main roads are clear, hey ho.
great day working outside 2day, got this years tan off to a good start.
I went out for a 10 miler today up Shutlingsloe and then up to Wetstone Ridge. It took longer than normal, and I was getting mild snow blindness by the end (everything was looking slightly twilighty - even though it was midday). I'm not used to having to take shades with me!
The deepest bits were around the stiles and gates, some of the drifts were about 2 feet deep. Great fun!
should be nice at three peaks trot tomorrow, nice and snowy, thats what scenery should look like,
i had some gortex inov8,they were brilliant with good grip and dry feet.
afriad they have now rotted out as fabric just couldnt cope with being damp.
with hindsight normal inov8 would have been cheaper and just as good.
contacted suplier but they just fobbed me off!
good service goes a long way during credit crunch dear sport shop!
