Everyone looking forward to this then?
Doubt, very much i'll be doing it, but i might come watch...as i'm still Injured, although i managed a very easy 55min run tonight. I'll have to wait and see how sore i am in the morning now. I've lost too much fitness, though to take the Northerns seriously.
Good luck! to all those people doing it though.
what's your target Chaddy...top 100????
I've been struggling with a cold this week, and had a very lax christmas.
Hopefully i'll be there, we'll see though.
I'll be there - hopefully not as muddy as it was in 1995! - see you then...
Have entered and hope to be there.:)
I bloody love the big cross country events like the Northern and the National.
It's great running in big fields, the cavalry charge effect at the beginning of the race is superb.
Heaton Park is one of my favourite cross country venues as well. Are you reading Chairman Cobra? ;)
I'll be there... it'll be the penultimate team race for Nestle Rowntree AC before we become City of York AC (and people stop asking me where we're from). Personally hoping for a mud-bath :o
Evening all.
I'll roger that.
I'l be there i love running at heaton park.
Should improve on last years position if i can keep my spikes on.
Sparth Bottoms had a nasty incident this week which involved lions teeth!
Tres bien mon ami, mais Derby est plus difficle pour la athletisme en Janvier, non?
Appaling effort. Someone correct it.
Oh, I didn't realise it was 8/10 material! Cheers! I'll stick to the day job though...
Whats all this about Sparticus then?
You're bloody pampered at Middleton you lot. Never mind Lions, you want to come into C Block at Rochdale we're fighting Teradactils. Every day is like living in Jurassic Park.;)
Anyway what about the Northerns Timothy - personally i want Heaton Park desolate with a howling gale blowing and it mud caked underfoot. :D
I'm gutted it's heaton park this year, as i'm not fit to run. I run better at local races... i don't travel and race well. i can never get my race prep right, on long haul races...(unless of course the club put us up somewhere the night before).
I endorse your sentiments.
Danbert's Charge at the Northern.
As Danbert jogs to the start line,
His heart is beating fast.
It could be anxiety - or pride,
As he's wearing his best club vest.
Some runners show sensitivity
and some are macho men.
Today is Danbert going to prove
the sword is mightier than the pen.
There are runners to the right of him
And runners to the left.
Will these men be able to tell
he has a great hole in his vest?
The 5 minute gun has gone
and runners form in ranks,
Danbert is in amongst them.
Has he time to hide his hankie in his pants?
The murmer slowly ceases...
The field edges to the line,
Danbert breathes deeply
And the moment is held in time.
He thinks of runners gone before him
And of those still yet to come,
And as the canon fires hears
"Strength and Honour my Son".
Danbert charges down the hill
to the plateau and monument.
He sees where he stood in '82,
when another John spoke to a larger mulitude.
Up hill, down dale and through the stream
Danbert storms his way around.
In this field of 400 runners
Where ever will Danbert be found?
Is there going to be a happy ending to this saga?
on the 2nd lap Danbert grabs a pole and a flag 'off we charge' says Danbert in slippers and carrying a flask.
no time to run over the stream the pole doubles up as a javeling , now Danbert grabs the pole ready to jump, holding tight as he doesn't want a fright.. jumping with all his might and in mid flight, his shorts come down oh my god what a fright :)
And then.....And then.....:)
As Danbert stode magnificantly out of the stream,
A white mist decended and covered him over.
He ran through the paddock avoiding the cows
Glad that they were more interested in clover.
As he climbed the hill at the end of the first lap
The crowds were shouting as he was seen,
He looked down - and horror of horrors,
His black vest and shorts had now turned green!!
Thank you Danbert.
