Great race, will definitely be up to do it again next year. The climb up Grey Friar was punishing but I loved the descent off the top towards Swirl How, but my favourite part was probably the descent off The Old Man. My legs had gone too much to enjoy the main descent from White Pike - maybe I can enjoy that next year when I have a bit more endurance in me.

I think I'd try the main path over Brim Fell next time. Might be a touch more climbing but the running must be faster on the easier ground and without the sideways tilt.

Thanks. Great pics, but I need to work on my style as the only one of me looks like I'm playing aeroplanes as I'm running down the hill.

I drove to the race via Ambleside but as a matter of interest did anyone go this way (Greenodd) and what was the traffic like ?

Went via A590 towards Greenodd and took the small road that cuts across to Spark Bridge, no problems at all, probably five minutes slower than normal route. Didn't check out the road works though.

Thanks :thumbup: I was just wondering about further trips up that way this year and early next. Looks like they have improved traffic conditions now though.

I think my Tom Tom took me via that pub you mention without me asking it to, which was nice. Had no problems at all.

The more I think about it, the better the race was. Easily the best medium I've done (and I've done at least two). Great campsite, great cakes, gorgeous route, great cakes.

Well worth a recce just to appreciate how nice it is as it's hard to do that when you're racing.

We also took the small road via Spark Bridge, no problems. Just a problem with the race, getting round the bloody thing !

Great race great weekend away many thanks to all for sorting this out, had a fall coming down last decent (Richter scale measured 3.2) so that put paid to racing on Sunday, so we Stayed in Grasmere ended up in Dale Lodge Hotel with a really good band on and got completely hammered.

The worst is now over, with contra-flow in place on a temporarily widened carriageway on the A590 and only traffic joining from the A5092 controlled by lights.
