Re: All LDWA events thread.
Maybe he's lurking under a new name :-) Boo, huwski!!
Anyway - what shoes do you all like to wear for LDWA events? I wore trail shoes for my last one, but after wished I'd worn road shoes as there was quite a bit of road, and firm tracks. I'm just wondering what to wear for Kiplings Kaper - has anyone done this, and can recommend what sort of shoes are appropriate? Ta.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Juicer,
Do you have an on-line route or link for kiplings Kaper ? If so could you post it as i'm curious where it goes. Am doing this in trail shoes, but not done it before either.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
I normally wear fell shoes. Occasionally I've worn off road trainers, wanting more support. But I think fell shoes are probably better. The other thing is that I don't tend to do many LDWA events over the summer, when the ground may be rock hard. If I thought the ground was going to be rock hard, then I might wear normal trainers.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Safety Pin - there won't be a route anywhere on the web I don't think - but I've got the route at home. I can put it up in a bit more more detail later. But basically it starts in Meerbrook, heads S and then W to a reservoir, then North up to Shutlingsloe, the East, down over the Roaches, and back to Meerbrook. Can't remember the place names in much detail at the moment. 20.5 mile option (with optional 2 mile addition of Shutlingsloe), or 26 mile option (with optional Shutlingsloe). The longer route goes out near the Cat and Fiddle.
May opt for road shoes, as I've been on-off running for the last 6 weeks, with a rather debilitating does of Medial Tibial Shin Splints. May save me getting as much bother, doing something as foolish as a 22.5 run!!!
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Thanks for that Juicer. Part of it sounds similar to roaches fell race. Looking forward to it. Hope your shin splints survive !!
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Safety Pin - here you go, slightly more detail.
*Start Meerbrook, follow South Staffs Walk trail S and W to Rudyard Reservoir. CP1 at Car Park N of reservoir.
*Continue N picking up Dane Valley Way, the other footpaths to Wildboarclough, and Shutlingsloe option. CP2 in Village Hall.
*Route diverges here for short or longer option. Longer option up by Cat and Fiddle, shorter one S to Gradbach. CP3 in Car park near Gradbach but slightly out of the way for the short route.
*S over The Roaches, and back to Meerbrook.
Hope that helps. Hope you have a good time. I'll be running with Mr 1470, at least to start with. We're gonna try for an early start, as a) I'll take ages b) Mr 1470 has to go to some football in the afternoon. Look out for us.... looks like I might be the one in road shoes
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Thats great thanks. See you tomorrow.
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Safety Pin - were you there? Twas a grand day out, beautiful weather, and Oh, The Food :)
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Hi Juicer,
What a cracking day, lovely weather and a great route. Did the 20 mile option. Took it steady - started at nine and did it in 5 hours but lost over 25 mins trying to find checkpoint 3 ! - kept going past bemused wedding guests at Gradbach Mill !! Wonderful food at the end - such a good day, i took the family over and walked around Rudyard Lake today !!
Re: All LDWA events thread.
Juicer,
cut me off early, how did your run go ?
