There is a path/trod pretty well all the way up to Greenup Edge, although very boggy in places, then contour round High Raise (no trod) and drop down to Stake Pass and onto the path to Angle Tarn.

The OCT is cracking good fun. The race doesn't even start till Scafell and I was dead on my feet by then. The heat was incredible last year, my partner was in and out of every river and tarn in sight, like a car with a leaky radiator. You think it is all over at Cockley beck before Grey Friar looms like your doom come early. Great run in from Coniston too. Just booked the weekend off for this year. Great fun!
I reccied Duddon on the same day last year and my chapeaux was indeed off to the OCTers in that heat ...

descend via Little Narrow Cove"
You sort of drop off the side of Scafell Pike, over Rough Crag and to the west of Dow Crag. It isn't as bad as it looks.
