Damn that was hard.

thanks deejay
gutted tho as I came 96th and that *just* puts me in the lower half! Damn you 192nd runner where were you?
thanks Gaz66 and well run yoursel
enjoyed that, laughed out loud at botanical section, I actually feel that should be encouraged in fell racing, it would add an intellectual aspect that may be missing!
One of the best fell races I've ever done, great terrain for running, cracking views, just gutted started to tire after 8 miles.
For anyone interested I've just posted a video on YouTube of today's race. I took my GoPro with me and covered all the checkpoints as well as some of the climbs and descents. It lasts about 10 minutes and is in 720p HD. It'd be good to show friends and rellies what you've just gone through. Hope you enjoy it.
It's currently still being processed by YouTube but should be ready soon. That was 23:45 today.

Were you there then Deejay?
I didn't see you, though there were a few from NFR.
Myself? Well, my first go at this and it's bloody hard work, though what else d'you expect from 6000' in 13-ish miles:closed:
Weather was perfect (if a little windy), but the climbs....good grief... As I say 6000' in 13 miles is going to hurt...and it did. Many of the climbs and descents are epic:w00t:. I found the contouring difficult and when I went sternum over apex, (ahem!) I told myself that my shadow would not be darkening this doorstep again.... But we all know the memory fades, and a few hours after finishing, I am thinking how to do better next time.
I know I dropped a couple of places at the end through a small nav error:mad: and then, as soon as I hit Tarmac, started to cramp:angry:
I did 4.02 and had planned about 4 hours, so pleased enough with that. In crappy weather, this would be one HARD race. As ever, how the folk at the sharp end manage to post such spectacular times, I don't know... It is a tough route.
Thanks to Jon B and the helpers for making it happen...the logistics can't be easy. In the spirit of supporting the people that support the sport, I bought a pair of shoes from the PB van, Cheers.
Good work posting that so fast comfortably numb.... Good to see the terrain again.
Many thanks to the organisers and marshals for an excellent race yesterday. Excellent video Comfortably_Numb - gives a really good feel for the route and conditions. I managed to take a few photos en route: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4773480...7635135070630/
Thanks for all the cheery greetings and introductions at Winder checkpoint, many new faces and sweaty, snotty handshakes! Good to see so many people having a grand day out.
Well Steve, if you'd said that about 2pm yesterday, I'd have told you to bugger off.... However, as is the way for all of us, the passing of a few hours and a couple of pints means that I am looking forward to next year!!!
The contouring and slimy tussocks aren't my usual bag, and those climbs and descents are huge. Did 4.02, so well under 4 next time..... And as for the tussocks and slime, I needed a bit of talking to..."Man-up and get on with it!"
The last third was great, but my ankles were battered and having slid down on my 'arris a couple of times, there were little stones and grass stuck up mi shorts:o. I'll spare you the details, but it's not pleasant... Approach grass surfing with caution and preferably cycling shorts:wink:.
Bloody tough route, but if it was easy it wouldn't be a proper fell race would it?!
Again, thanks to all. I imagine marshalling up there in poor weather would be tough, and a big responsibility for the RO to take on.
You alreet, Steve?
Hi, yes shame I missed you LR. It is a toughie, I'd forgotten just how tough! I felt worse in the last two miles than I had at Borrowdale!
Good time there Deejay.
my garmin got it at under 5000ft ?
My quads are saying 9000ft minimum
Haha.... I am with you on that one.
My legs haven't felt so battered in years, and for the first time in a long time, I was cramping up towards the end. Why does it suddenly get worse on Tarmac?
I am still suffering for that 4.02!!!
....but I suspect I'll be back for more.
Left in Peoples Hall after Sedbergh Hills Race:
1) Black inov8 cap
2) PBS bumbag containing full FRA kit - comprehensive!
Please call Jonathan Broxap on 01539 731012 to claim
SHR entry forms will be downloadable from Kendal AC website form 7th June not 1st June as in Handbook
Haha - quoted exactly as Jon sent!
does this one fill up, or is EOD possible?
Its a champs race, I would have thought it will fill fast as the other AL alternative is Ennerdale and that is significantly longer and harder!
I can't find an entry list on Kendal AC site. I had my entry accepted (sent maybe 10 days ago) & got a letter confirming this earlier this week.
I emailed Jon Broxap (RO - details on FRA site) before I had received written confirmation, he was very helpful & emailed back the same day. Probably worth getting in touch with him to ask if entry limit has been reached.
I have an accepted entry with the checkpoints on and have transferred them onto my map.
Could anyone help me by put a map on here so I have a rough idea of the route between points please?

Here you go Trevor. Once on page you have some Google Earth pics to give you a feel from CP-CP. There's the Hyperlink Sedbergh_Hills as well which will give you a PDF map.
On the climb away from CP3, some bear right or South West a little and then contour around the first gill. It avoids a descent and ascent, but adds at least 400m and perhaps more if you don't get the line right.
I love this race. Shows the Howgills off fantastically and CP3-4 is brutal, but for a variety of reasons I haven't been able to get to it for a few years now.
PB race map shows the racing line - although Jebby did test out another around Hazelgill Knott last year.
Just need to find mine now.
Brilliant.
Thanks Richard:D
Many Thanks
