Hmmm - seem to recall there was a clear request that waterproofs were carried at Wicken Whizz on Friday but several runners did not and was not aware of any DSQ's. One rule for one........?

A learning experience - I hope!
Totally different. A request is made for kit to be worn, which may be enforced through a kit check. There's only a few races where the check is enforced for all participants, most just check a sample of runners.
A navigation challenge requires all users to visit all checkpoints which is enforced through marshalls taking numbers at the checkpoints and so applies to all. Simple to see the differences, when you give it a brief moment's thought.
Cheers!
Err my understanding is that if at sign in the RO says you should carry a waterproof top as is his right in the FRA rules and you dont comply you have broken the rules of the race and you should be DSQ'd as you broke the RO's instructions and the FRA rules. If the the race route says you should visit X,Y and Z and you don't, again race rules broken and you should be DSQ'd. Either way same thing - rules broken consequences ensue. Not sure I need to give it any moments thought, however if the RO gives clear instructions but then does not enforce punishment on the transgressors I am not sure where that leaves us.
I am guessing from your naive reply you have not been racing long and new to the sport? Don't worry you will learn.
JohnH:
No wonder your wife was starting to get worried!
Your route looks like something created by a toddler coming to grips with the finer points of Etch-A-Sketch.
Glad you enjoyed the weekend though. See you next year!
Antisocial:
Sorry I didn't recognise you at the Sheepstones Trig. I'd have said hello.
I expect your identity was shrouded by an enormous, rule-compliant cagoule.
Well done.

Let me know if it works!
I share your pain Damien... I must have been running in the same group as you, and also took the 'alternative' route to the finish of the Tittiman! Kicking myself why I didn't just stop, turn round, and get back on the right route - it would have taken a few minutes, but better than a DNF, especially after running all 3!
Hi Rich, I can now put a name to the face, you pipped me on Reservoir bogs as I went over on my ankle.
Did think about turning round and completing it, but thought I will just have to have a crack at it next year.
Nothing like a bit of unfinished business to get the fire burning...:p
Cheers Damien, yep I remember seeing you rolling about on the floor, hope there was no lasting damage.
If a year is long enough for me to forget the pain I might also have to return to finish the job properly..!
Hullo Trig, just figured out who you are!
Yep I'm planning to give Cragg Vale a go tonight, sounds like a good little do - hope my legs are up to it after the weekend!

Top band on the Sat night at the Hare & Hounds for us too, Mean Business
I'll be there but participation will be limited due to fractured collar bone sustained at Helvellyn & the Dodds. Hope to do the Reservoir Bogs - early start, take it slow but hopefully not as slow as last year!
Every time i praise the wonderment's of this weekend as "the best ever race weekend" i get injured and miss it so i will say``` i am not attending``` i have no intention of even thinking about this weekend```` nor will i even try and run this excellent weekend race event```` nor will i book Monday off work! never ever ever ever ever
Three races in three days for me dont even think about it!
I might go for all 3 this year to get my money's worth.....
Have you seen Bill has started a FB page to keep us all updated as the news, results, and galleries come through?

Hoping we won't have Wicken Hill Whizz soundtracked by flood sirens this year..
It was quite atmospheric last year to have the sirens echoing round the valley while the runners were descending, but I'd prefer not to have a repeat!!!
Seems like it's going to be the opposite extreme - came down the WHW descent with last night and we were surprised how rock hard and dry it was. Still no easier than the more normal slithery mud! Still time yet for conditions to change though!
Does anyone know how the hill got the Wicken tag? Sounds like dark forces could be at work up there.....
I'm more interested in how Tom Tittiman got its name...:o
Two possibilities:
1. That it was Viking Hill - perhaps marking an outpost from Viking settlements in Cragg Vale, or even because it overlooked them. The Vikings aren't known to have lived in the Luddenden area.
2. That it was the site of a cattle station or vaccary, of which there were a number in the area - the surname Wicken can denote a cattle farmer.
There may be more!
Just been round the Whicken route this evening and is very dry.
Will be marshalling tomorrow so have a goodun and Bill has booked the sunshine for the evening this year.
We will be marshalling at the stile on to the rough ground. Will have the 2 white lurchers with me. (Ernie & Flint)
Feel free to shout on your way past.
Enjoy the race.
Cracking race tonight, well organised as usual & the rain stayed away!!
Hopefully get to Tom Tittiman on Sunday.
Well done to all who ran tonight and gave me a shout.
Hope you all enjoyed your run.
Cheers Trevor, good to see you mate.

As I left the Hare and Hounds there was still some controversy as to certain runners not visiting CP6 - watch this space....
Really enjoyed today's wander over the moors. Many thanks to the organisers and also thanks to Ben the toddy runner who guided a group of us compass comedians around the route. Even had time to go to holmfirth for the James blakeley fell race, good day all round.
