I did look at these sites (and Woodhead MRT's site) but, if the info's there it isn't obvious. (Perhaps I need new specs!)
Thanks for the info IDP - pity you've retained the Snake Pass stretch. No doubt you have your reasons, but I really do hope that all runners manage to get past this risky section safely.

yes there is a very thorough kit check as runners can be very spread out and it's along way between CP's as to the time well bear in mind I'm running so allow enough time to register and be kitchecked. There are 2 toilets but if you can go before you get here as the queue gets quite big. There is no hall to stand around in to keep warm so once you have been reg/kitchecked please clear the area for the other runners.
just a reminder not to skimp on clothes or food this is one tough race that is unmarked. I'll be carrying a bivvy bag in my bumbag on top of everything else.
I was asking only because mention of an 8am kit-check was an aside in one post on this forum - will people who haven't read this thread know about it? For someone who has not run the race before
good to get some clear info anyway ... thanks

My thoughts exactly, and thanks too for the info. Very pleased about the location of CP1 as this is what I've assumed in my reccys.

 checkpoints were widely known last year, published both on here and on the DP site, I do know of one forumite who had the grid refs but didn't check where they were on the route:rolleyes:

The race has always had a strict kit check. even if you did not know this you should come ready for one on a race like this.
Went up there today, the odd flury of snow and a few patches on the ground. It was desperately cold up there in fact we bailed out.
I had 2 base layers, a gillet, a pertex and a waterproof on, Full leg cover and O/T, Hat and gloves. I hope it's not like that on race day:eek: make sure you have plenty of warm stuff with you

well, I didn't bail out.
I reccied the whole route today in five inches of snow and pretty poor visibility. It was cold, I had the kit, it was fine.
We went cross-country to crowden little brook, off the PW to hern stones and down the brook to Snake, and then the direct route over kinder. A couple of moments of uncertainty on bleaklow in 50m visibility and snow covering everything but hey - I'm sure even the fellrunning royalty on here wouldn't object to that.
What I do sort of object to is that one should know everything about this race from previous years or from connection with people in the know. The insinuation seems to be that if you don't have all this prior knowledge, and you don't know where to look for the info then you're somehow ill-prepared?
I always carry the right kit but it's a totally different question as to why anybody who hadn't done TT before would know the score re.kitcheck.
Strikes me as very much a local race for local people.
In which case, I'm not that fussed.
Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
A race of this magnitude at this time of year shouldn't need anybody to spell out the potential dangers and therefore all runners should be aware a kit check will take place.
As last year the specification for quality / quantity of kit carried will be determined by the prevailing weather conditions. Any one not having adequate kit will not be allowed to compete.
As IanDP has specified, there are 2 checkpoints you need to pass through, what you do in between is your choice, except for the area under Rollick Stones where the shooting occurs.
There is a large area of open moorland to be crossed, and dependant on the weather, it will be "easy"or difficult.
We do not want anyone going permanently astray.
Be safe and enjoy. :D
Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Thanks PB.
I totally understand all you say, I just thought it'd be easier for all concerned (you and IDP included so you don't get pestered with Qs from the likes of me) to have race info in one place.
And IDP, I apologise for the stroppy tone of my post: you've been very helpful. I really should step away from the laptop sometimes.:o
