Do you wear wellies on this section to keep your feet dry? Surely if it's boggy everyone's feet will be getting drenched?

This 3 peaks thingy.
It's just a longish trail race isn't it?
After weeks of glorious weather the gods seem to be sending both very wet and very windy stuff our way tomorrow. Hang on to your taped seams!
Have a good run tomorrow folks - will see you on the start line and at the finish, in your moment of glory.
If there's heavy rain and the surface is rock hard here it is simpified.if your elite any type o shoe.in first hundred or so trail shoe.next drove speed cross fell x ect.if your in the back o the field mudclaw or the like coz the top inch will be cut up turned over and sticky n v greasy.
I'll probably need a quad bike :D
Well it didn't rain in Thirsk!
Good luck Rev!! Smash it.
Reports from the keen boys up there already are that it's bloody awful. Great.
After 5 continuous years I regret to confess that I am looking forward to a year off. Especially hearing the weather forecast!
Great race, weather was horrible, really terrible!
I thought the weather conditions were almost ideal, a little too cold on the tops later but just what you need generally to keep cool!
How did everyone get on with those road shoes?
Ricky Lightfoot wasn't around to collect his winner's prizes because he's on a night shift. Isn't he a fireman? I wonder if Mo Farah does something useful after a hard day's racing...
First attempt and it broke me, I was a shell of a runner upon reaching the summit of Ingleborough, the next 4/5 miles were horrendous, I hit the wall big time, I'd still be out there if it wasn't for the kind folk manning sulber nic checkpoint :) in fact all the marshalls were amazing, thank you to each and every one of them :) I was on jo buckley shoulder coming up Ingleborough, I bet she beat me by 20 minutes at least. ... great day though, I'll be back :)
Sort of enjoyed it! PB of 4.43.27, not great but happy enough now I've settled down. To be honest the weather wasn't a massive problem. I wore shorts which I wasn't convinced was a good idea but went with it. Legs never felt cold at all. Felt good on Whernside but struggled a little on Ingleborough, though not as bad as in the past! Run down wasn't too nice. Great day. God Bless the Marshals! :)
Run of the day for me was Clayton's Keiran Carr with his V70 course record!! Fantastic.

Well done!.
1. The 3P is all in the head! If you got round you got round so your pacing was flawed or you would have stormed down from Ingleborough.
2. Assume Ricky knows about pacing.
3. For Ricky calculate as a % his cumulative split times based on his finish time.
4. Repeat for self based on your finishing time
5. Compare and contrast.
6. Draw a conclusion!

Great day out and the weather wasnt too bad for me, a couple of our clubs 4 hour+ runners mentioned some sleet on Ingleborough. Took a couple of tumbles on the lower descent off Ingleborough due to tiredness but pleased with a 20min pb of 3h36, all the training the last couple of months paid off.
The face of a winner (in between night shifts!!!)

This year's marshals were even better than usual, despite the awful weather, always had a cheery word: sideways snow/hail reported on Ingleborough by some 4.20-50 finishers. I tried for a PB but never found a race so tough, sub 4 but only just!
Above - agreed - new V70 record in those conditions was a highlight!
5 hour finishers had it worst - probably our fault for being so slow :D
Sideways sleet on Whernside and proper snow on Ingleborough !!
Started bad for me, felt a recent hamstring niggle after only a mile or so and nursed it round, just tried to make the cut-offs and managed it, so under the circumstances chuffed to get round on 1 and a half legs :)
Marshalls did a great job, always great to see the Sulber Nick ones :
Hopefully get there next year ready to run properly for the first time in a few attempts.
I did get carried away mid race but its hard not too when feeling so good, I was utter garbage coming off Whernside but that was due to be mincing about rather than being tired. I swear the change of terrain when encountering that god awful 'nic' section did towards the end did for me.... I think i'll go back to Horton in the summer for the veiws this time ;)

Of course. And I knew more about pacing the 3P after 10 of the things rather than after my first.
But you have to really believe that the race doesn't start before Whernside and that all those heroes dashing past in the first half will come back to you in the second; and that everyone you pass on the long run in from Ingleborough will generate pure joy.
Nothing feels as good in the 3P as crushing people's dreams as you cruise past them.

That's pretty much what I did!! I than continued to Ingleborough in the same vein! However I was totally knackered coming into the field. I was a bit short of hill work in training though! Not sure I had anymore in the tank on this occasion!
Thanks must go to all the Marshalls today who did a fantastic job in some awful conditions on the top of Wherside and Ingleborough and they all managed still to stay so cheerful. There seemed more marshalls out this year which was great ! I was behind a lady who fell crossing some very slippery rocks after the High Birkwith checkpoint she hit her face very hard on the rocks - I stopped to help and hope that she is OK and not too badly injured. Once I got to the top of Whernside I suffered terrible cramp and fell and a very kind male runner from I think Bingley ( had a blue and white striped vest on ! ) stopped and massaged my calf which allowed me to carry on and make the cut off at the Hill Inn - so thanks to him and hope he did not get too cold helping me and hope he too made the cut off . This just shows what a wonderful group of people fell runners are - always willing to help despite possibly hindering their own performance so thanks very much to him as I did not get his number.
Just glad to finish and what a wonderful feeling to cross the line at such a well organised event.

Helping make dreams sounds much more positive than crushing them.
Well I have my poetic side as well DT; but no one ever asks me about that? :)
:)
Wet, windswept, battered with hail and snow....and every marshal still had a smile on their face and words of encouragement. Many thanks to each and everyone of you...hi Manhar, great to see you.
The spectators are always on fine form lining the route and yesterday's hardy bunch really helped to lift the spirits. Don't think I've ever ate so many sweets during a race, I couldn't resist the countless offers of a sugar rush....in fact I've probably put weight on.
PRE-RACE
For the last 3 years I've always been disappointed with my performance at the peaks. It's totally self inflicted brought on with my complete lack of training and the sub 4hrs I've been after hasn't materialised. Runners who I race side by side with on a weekly basis say I should be doing a 3.45hr...shoulda, woulda, coulda.
This year I was determined to do something different for the sub 4. The races have remained, yesterday was my 30th race this year, but I have done a few training runs...8 in total, all of a distance of 12 flat miles with the last 2 mile of each run being flat out blowing out my arse running. But once the mid week races started at the beginning of this month I've not done a training run.
RACE-DAY
In previous Peaks races I've been obsessed about split-times and constantly been checking my watch. Not this year....my watch was knackered and strangely I was kind of relieved. I had a rough idea of what times I needed to be at the check points and with nearly every runner wearing a watch I'd ask for times.
The strange thing about the Peaks race is that most runners seem to be racing for their own achievable goal. Racing week in week out you have your friendly battles with the same faces but for me this race feels different....you have your agenda and its best to try and stick with it.
Not going into too much detail, I enjoyed the race, didn't find the weather a problem and thankfully avoided cramp. Was it down to my 8 training runs, did I just feel good on the day? Not sure....but at 3.45hrs I'm well happy to finally sub 4......next year sub 3.30hrs?
HATS OFF
The incredible times the front runners churn out are extremely impressive, well done guys.....and echoing previous comments regarding Kieran Carr, what an inspiration. Also vet 60 Jackie Winn knocking out a 3.50hr....go on Jackie lad. Then there's Wendy Dodds completing her 32rd Peaks race after recently breaking her arm whilst skiing. And please correct me if I'm wrong but was yesterday David Scott's 47th Peaks race...gulp.
Many thanks to all involved.

Plenty More Miles in those Legs by Andy Holden, on Flickr
Well done Mr Fishwick - there are plenty More Miles left in those legs ;)
Darren, well done mate. Good even pacing too. Maybe there's something in this training lark.
As others have said, massive thanks to the marshals. Great getting a cheerio hello from Brett in the freezing rain on Whernside.
