Usual bike commute - towpath route then 6+miles easy/steady run -a mix of the usual from home - towpath, field paths, woods, a few hills, riverside & road.
Ooh, the new gym is also the leisure centre so swimming and sauna is included...bonus
15 miles route thro Bowland, start fellfoot paths and tracks thro farms on western edge of fell, up steep gulley to get on shooting track on bleasdale ridge across to path and track down langden valley through hareden farm and up to Tortridge and back to car via burnslack valley. Some crackin views and a very enjoyable run that started out as a planned 9 miler:D
Nowt spec, 20 mins then rest. A long 'un tomorrow first thing as prep for KT...
A nice short 4.5 mile around Pex Hill this morning.
a nice brisk 4 miles around hartshead pike this morning, going to do a 14 miler around chew valley tommorow just to see if i can remember to run that far
Just under 6 miles on and around Baildon Moor starting from layby near the cattle grid.
Gargunnock hill race, 4.5m 1000ft
The first runnning of this race as part of the village show. a good turnout and great sunny weather made this a cracking run, felt good and steady on the climb and passed plenty on the descent. No idea of time but of the three other Westies there I haven't beaten any of them in a hill race, and I was ahead of two. Not bad in a hard week staring with Duddon, and a long fell run midweek. Another long one tomorrow around Arrochar and then ease up for Ennerdale next week.
About 14 miles seriously off road on a mountain bike - fantastic fun and I now have another up and coming obsession to get all stupid about.
Doesn't count unless its running:rolleyes: Who said that a while ago on this very thread:confused:
MTB's are great fun as are cyclocross bikes, great for cross training or when you can't run cos your injured. But it does become an obsesion and starts costing lots when you knack your bike, enjoy Stolly;)
Yeah I was riding my daughter's bike, a GT Aggressor or something. It inspired me enough to dig out my what must be 15 year old MB and drive over to Skipton this afternoon to put it in for an overhall.
Unfortunately the bike shop had loads of shiney new bikes........ and I saw one I now must have
35 mins pace run to keep the legs moving
7.25 miles on the roads this morning. Felt quite tired today but enjoyed it.
2 hours 30 mins around the chew valley with my dad, really nice day, didn't take a drink with me i wish i had done though
Arrochar Alps race route, 13 miles, 8000feet ascent. A slow plod around with another Westie at the end of a hard week (including the race yesterday where I found out I was 18/71, my best result so far).
Low cloud and strong winds on first summit, then got better and ended in bright, hot sunshine. The driest I have ever seen these hills, but still plenty to drink until half way up Ben Ime. Felt good all the way and am finding eccles cakes to be a wonder food for these long days, alternated with malt loaf and feel fine.
Easy week now before Ennerdale.
Jason.
Easy nine miles on canals and road in the hot sunshine. Hopefully 2 more hardish weeks of 50 plus miles including 3/4 fell runs a week and then 2 easy weeks to be in reasonable fettle for the Saunders. Good side effect of reasonable mileage for 6 weeks is that I have lost almost a stone, going uphill diffo is easier:)
Did Ben Nevis yesterday, what a day!!! Gloriously clear,a little warm but lovely on top, especially as when I got up I was the only one there for 10 minutes or so,UNTIL,heard what sounded like a motorbike and there were four trials bikes coming over the crest:eek: Talk about shattering the silence! Anyhoo, had a steady run down, until I went arse over tit infront of atleast 20 walkers, ended up with bruising to both my forearm and ego.A few comments were noted, such as "Bravo","Are you mad?" and my fave,"well done young man" (christ!!) .4400 ft,2hrs 10.A few hours later back at Glen Nevis campsite, saw helicopter hovering round about half way up,didnt think much of it but was told by a walker this morning that a 62 year old man had fallen form Devils Ridge(I think)and died.
6 mile trek round hebden bridge with JJ & Sophie
13 miles on moors. All off road, mostly on unmarked paths. Got a little lost and fell many times in the rough heather. Cracking day for it.
Just noticed this . My nit picking about cycling before was nothing to do with training on bikes really. It was more to do with someone like IanDarkPeak reporting in on his training with a 45 mile mile gut buster of a run whilst someone like Ady (or Merrylegs) would then pipe up with their own 65 miler..... and forget to mention that they'd done it on a bike :D. You were cheapening Ian's efforts ;)
Mind you my 14 miles on saturday and again 5 miles yesterday (on a bike) seemed to take as long as it would have taken me to run them!
A late 'un last night. Some 2 1/4 hours (~2800ft ascent) on the fells around Holme Moss/Black Hill. Started at Holme village, up the road to the aerial thingy then across the moor to Tooleyshaw before descent to Crowden. Then followed Crowden Horseshoe route/PW up to the trig point. Kept on going towards the Isle o' Skye road before turning right across the moor to pick up the bridleway to Holme (and the car!). Didn't see a soul.....just wildlife. Magical.
Wouldn't dream of cheapening IDP's efforts, however, Trainers are cheaper than bikes, go back to that bike shop in Skipton, Stolly, and look at the price tags, then you need a helmet, gloves, pedals, shoes...............the list goes on, thats why i'm running more these days;)
2 miles , with a hill !
5 miles at lunchtime by the side of the canal in Dukinfield, very hot out there !
7.5 miles tonight all off road :D
Seeing as the prospect of me running in the near future seems to be diminishing rapidly I seem to have become a cyclist...
20 miles yesterday, 14 miles today.
.....and a shiney new road bike..... :D
