Just a bad day, I think :

Hi All
Am keen to secure a place in the Snowdon race this year - i haven't done it before and believe its heavily oversubscribed and there are no guarantees of getting in, even if you meet the entry requirements.
I have a query about the entry requirements and wondered if anyone can help - although the organisers contact details are on the website they don't seem to respond to e-mails or text messages.
On the homepage of the race website it refers to the need for 2 x AM grade fell races, but on the race rules page, where the full list of rules are detailed, it only refers to the requirement for having completed 1 x AM grade race.
The reason am interested is that although i've been fell running for quite a while, i only started doing races a couple of months ago, i have done a couple of AS races and one AM race (Long Mynd Valleys). I was due to do my second AM grade tomorrow (Flower Scar) but i have sprained my achillies tendon training for the Excalbibur Marathon next month and i am having to miss Flower Scar tomorrow. So my question is, if i stay up til midnight on 15th March to submit an entry and it makes it through, will i subsequently be rejected for not meeting the entry requirements as per the homepage, or will i secure a place as per the requirements in the race rules on the website.
If anyone knows from previous years i'd be interested to hear...
cheers

Hi Tid,
How did you get on with entry? I entered the other day with no problems, just by putting Barcelona Marathon as my qualifying race.
Now I just need to work out how to train for it while living in Southampton (not renowned for being hilly!).
Hi JSBean
Yes i managed to secure a place - i thought the entries opened at midnight on Friday night but happened to look on the site earlier in the evening and realised they actually opened at midnight the night before and places were going like hot cakes! Anyway, am really pleased that i got in on time and managed to get a place. I have done a few AS races but just included my most recent race and put "Long Mynd Valleys 2013 / Liverpool Marathon 2012" in the previous races box and i don't think i'm going to get my place taken off me for not complying with the rules. They seem to have updated the website recently and the conflicting info about the entry criteria has been sorted out ("an A grade fell race M or L distance or a marathon in the last year", but i noticed on the TDL entry form it asked for relevant qualifying races in the last 5 years! Anyway, as someone else informed me, i think it is mainly a filtering process designed to put the fun runners off, i can see why they wouldn't want lots of DNFs and inappropriately experinced people getting in the way of the elite runners.
Good luck finding somewhere suitable to train - i'm on the Wirral which is pretty flat too, my main training ground is the Clwyidian playground 25 mins away but i can reach Peaks, Lakes and Snowdonia within 1.5 hours.
I don't know the southampton area but looks like your best bet is finding a route that takes you through on as much ascent as possible in the New Forest National Park?
cheers

Cheers for the training route suggestions, Tid and Derby Tup.
The New Forest has some nice rolling mounds, but none are particularly severe. I think Butser is my best bet. I reckon an early morning drive and a few reps will help.
When I asked my athletics club coach (old school, did Ben Nevis in late '50s) how to train for Snowdon in Soton he just laughed and said "You can't".

Visiting N Wales (Conwy) this weekend and was planning a training run up the tourist path on Sunday...but the forecast's looking pretty grim http://www.mwis.org.uk/sd.php?fdate=130414
Was wondering what conditions are like - anyone been up recently or got any better suggestions (other than staying in the pub)?
Hi Murt
not sure about current conditions sorry, am away this weekend but if yourself and anyone else on the forum is interested in meeting up for a training run sometime in May i'd be up for it.
I guess alternative suggestions (other than staying in pub!) would depend on where you're travelling from and if you're looking for alternatives in Snowdonia or elsewhere??
cheers
