Ta!!! I will!!! :D
Ferry booked, camping...sorted!! Slightly scared tho'!!! Is it harder the Ennerdale? Not many off here doing it?
Looks like I'll be the only Macc Harrier going! My first time, so any advice on best travel route would be gratefully received. I plan to travel on thursday but without doing the miles of cycling between islands.
I know someone with a sister on Jura, he said: The ferry is a one man one boat company – he’ll put on as many extra services as he can to get everyone there. Sarah will need to check if he’ll take a bike – it’s a small RIB with an outboard motor but I’d be surprised if he didn’t let you strap it to the roof. Might be worth opening a thread on the FRA in due course to make sure you have critical mass for an extra service…
The alternative is the Calmac ferry which runs four times a day from Kennecraig to Islay, from where you take a small (10 minute) car ferry across Jura sound to Jura. It’s much slower (four hours to Islay, an extra hour from Islay to Jura) but a bit cheaper if don’t take your car over (bear in mind you have to pay an bit extra for the Islay-Jura Ferry on top), but has lots of capacity www.calmac.co.uk.
Oh, and if the wind blows from the North they often cancel the Islay-Jura ferry so you might not be able to get off the island at all, as we did for a few days after my sister’s wedding a few years ago, although those without cars escaped on a very bumpy RIB ride round the coast to Islay and the airport/big ferry. It started to get worrying when the hotel was running out of food…
But all that’s part of the adventure ;-)
so I will see if I can get more info and get back to you, S
