A few photos here.

I was on the Dow Crag check point where it was more important to take number than photos so there aren't as many photos as I would have liked but there we are.

I had a glance at some the discussion about "folded numbers on shorts" on another thread and I did wonder, a little about the fuss but I learned a couple of lessons on Saturday - folded numbers are much, much more difficult to read. Numbers on shorts are even more difficult to read and folded numbers on shorts are even worse. In some instances with folded numbers on shorts it was possible to see only 1 of up to 3 digits of the race number. Fortunately it was a clear, bright, dry day in less benign conditions it would have been very difficult see race numbers.

Now I strongly support the idea of prohibiting folded numbers and insisting that numbers are pinned to vests rather than shorts - oh, and pay attention to where you bumbag/rucksack straps are: across your race number isn't ideal :-)

Great photos Jammy. Hope the Ambleside runner number 134 is ok after that spectacular fall!

Really enjoyed this race - just wanted to say thanks to the RO, marshals, volunteers, etc. for a great effort. Will be back to support next year.

Ian, I agree that is is hard as a marshall to see numbers that are folded and pinned to shorts, we even had a few runners in the Borrowdale race this year pin their numbers to their backs! All those people who pin their numbers to their shorts need to have a little spell at marshalling to see how difficult it is and how important for the marshall to see their number and to get it written down. All it needs is one brave race organiser (Ian Hodgson organiser!) to disqualify all runners who haven't got their number pinned to their vest! If Robert Jebb has enough room to pin his number to his vest (which he always does) then everyone has. With regards folding numbers down I do agree that some numbers are big but sponsors pay to have their names on the numbers i.e, they want them to be seen! People say they flap about,
solution - one pin in each corner and one in the middle. Keep taking the great photos Ian.

After the furore and whinging about on the other thread about the "new rules," I was much more concious about making my number as visible as possible to all the marshals, as best as I could. I tried to make it as flat and readable at each CP as I could, following Jebby's example from the Borrowdale video that someone posted last week. Hopefully it helped.

I do think that all those who whinge (and it is whinging) about the clarifications and "making the sport more complicated" do need to go and marshal or see first hand why some of these clarifications are needed.

Anyway, thanks to the RO and all the marshals (tried to say thanks as I went round, but was suffering badly after the Old Man). Cracking race route and maybe I'll be back next year to do it justice. I was woeful on Saturday - ropey stomach again!

Although a bit odd, with numbers on good paper this works well. Crush the whole thing as small as you can into a little ball, then straighten it back out and pin it as normal. It will be badly creased but it stops the wind catching it as bad.

Yes, I do this as well and it works. You just have to remember to straighten the number out at CPs to make sure that it's clearly readable for the marshals.

And easier to read than a small, folded, number on a moving target on shorts or leg!

I think that some people pin a number to their shorts if they intend to run topless.
