Thanks Steve, useful post this!
Although it clearly states this in the rules, I'd overlooked it or forgotten.
I will definitely need to get up there and recce it!

After 13,254 posts i've come up with a useful one:w00t:
If it gets everyone down safely off Scafell Pike it will be worth all the drivel that came before:thumbup:
After a reccie on sunday i must say this looks like a cracking, tough route, hope it's not as hot as last year (didn't do it but read all the reports!)
Does this help? GPS track available if required.

Aaaah I wish I could have a go at this one, it's such a fantastic route. I walked this with my Dad as a teenager - I remember sunrise on Striding Edge and then getting to Coniston at dusk, what a day. But I can't risk my knees on such a long route. Good luck all.
Actually it's a brilliant descent. I'll look forward to doing it one day when I'm not already knackered or saving myself for the next n miles. Enjoy your reccie.
Going to recce the course tomorrow. Can anyone tell me if CP 1, GR 339098, Path Junction is on the Little Tongue Gill path? No obvious junction shown on my map. Thanks.
Thanks, I'm sure all will become clear tomorrow.
Looking forward to the race. Went round the first half this morning - any experts out there know the best line up Wythburn? Stay on the left of the stream all the way? Cross to the right early on and skirt the boggy flat bits further up? Do folk climb steeply to the col at the head of the valley or do a rising traverse from the right - starting at the sheepfold? The way I went (left of stream nearly all the way) wasn't great.
Help appreciated!
I seem to remember all routes up Wythburn are a bit sh*tty, Dan!
Mmmm I feared that, Im wondering which is least Sh***y!
It's got to be really dry at the moment, that must help higher up. I'd cross the stream to the right but then I've never raced it. I'm definitely not the expert advice you are looking for.
Left of the stream until the last level bit where you can cross to the right and then on left again, ascending the steep part along the path.

That sounds ok. It is very tempting to cross to the right very low down (before the footbridge) as it seems to 'cut the corner'. Glad left is best though as thats what I looked at today. Ta Yiannis
A week to go and entries are still being accepted. Any last minute enquires to [email protected]. No Ladies teams have entered yet.
Due to an injury to my original partner I am now in the market for a new one. I know it's rather short notice but anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation and fancies partnering up please let me know. I went round in 10 hrs 20 mins (31st) in last years heat and would expect somewhere around the 10 hour mark (assuming reasonable visibility). Don't want to hold anybody back or vice versa. I have a few other feelers out but any offers gratefully received from any age, any sex, any time !!

I was planning to do the Dales Skyline next Saturday but could be interested in doing this with you instead. Not too familiar with the course so dont know if 10 hours is a brutal or an OK pace. Currently I am training for a Ramsey attempt in June, so something like this could be really good for me. PM me with further details and we can chat on the phone.
Regards
Simon
Thanks Willy
I've just read the website and it sounds a great race. Hope I can get in. I'll PM BtG.
Simon
Thanks very much for your response. Have sent you back a PM. Hopefully it will have arrived and I shall contact you in the morning on the number you gave.
Four of us where coming up for the OCT from Shropshire unfortunately one of our runners has dropped out. I was wondering if anyone out there fancied a long run ?good BG training. Something around 10 to 11 hrs. As has been already mentioned this is one of the best races in the calendar!!
Quick question: Do both people in a team have to carry a map or will one do?
This is from the Achille Ratti website race rules:
"Competitors must carry full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food"
Clearly both members of the team must carry all specified items (the same as in all team events).

steve
yes, both people have to carry maps - my partner and I nearly got disqualified a few years ago for that one
Thanks YDT and BFMK, wasn't sure on that one. Would a Lakeland 100 one do? It covers all areas.
In case one of the pair drops their map when it's really really windy when they stop for a quick number two and the map blows away and their partner has to run after it and catch it.
Allegedly.
Thanks YDT.
Must remember some toilet roll as well Grouse!
In the Saunders MM they used to issue only one description sheet per pair (in the days when you had to mark the map after the start). That did cause some problems on occasions.

Off to the lakes in an hour for and long weekend and a long run!
Cheers Andy and Peter, will pass on your regards and thanks to Mrs C if i can get a word in edgeways;)
Anyone out there need a partner?
