Completely took my eye off the ball and assumed EOD was going to be possible as that's what i usually do with this race. However, i haven't run it for about 6 years. I suspect i;ve missed the boat this year? Anyone know it it's full?
Ah well, serves me right...
It's mostly on paths or easy up to CP3, after that it gets harder. Last time i did this everyone went ENE to the col below Docker Knott, not Witton's way. The contouring around the side of Simon's Seat above West Grain will give you sore ankles, ankles you'll need to get off Hazelgill Knott. Personally i'd get high on Simon's Seat and drop off it perpendicular to the contour lines if i did it again, but nobody would bother to follow me i dare say! Don't go low into the col north of Hazelgill Knott or you'll get slowed down by loads of little gills. CP4 is the last water and you'll need some. If the weather is crap get a cag on at CP4 because the route is very exposed from then on and you'll more than likely be running into the wind. I'd also have at least 1 spare gel when you leave CP4 preferably 2, the drop off Winder is very close to bonking time if you're short of energy from having run into a headwind for 6 miles.
I entered late and got in. email Jon and I am sure you will get an entry. need to go on www.kendalac.co.uk to get entry form
Very good advice Mr B but you know what my descending is like.
It's on the race page on the FRA website. I know he was taking postal entries up till tomorrow mornings post so unless you can get an entry to him tomorrow you've probably missed it. He's been very helpful to me.
Racing on Sunday. Instead of tapering nicely, I've had a stinking cold. Still, hoping that a few days working (gardening) has at least some benefits!

Sedbergh Hills Race 2014 – Change to Parking
Owing to a waterlogged cricket pitch – Bertha is to blame – race parking is no longer available at Sedbergh School. Race parking is now at Sedbergh Sports Field, 1k, east of the town on A683 GR672924 – from west/M6 go thru town on Kirkby Stephen road – follow the yellow signs.
It’s about 10mins walk from Peoples Hall but park and bike is a good option – plenty of room for bikes and kit at Peoples Hall. Changing rooms – showers – and plenty of loos available.
Please do NOT” fly park” in the town – it just hacks the locals off – we are very dependent upon the goodwill of the rural community. Parking is only £2 per car.
Race timing will be by sportident. Please remember to bring your completed Registration Form which you can exchange, at the appropriate desk in Peoples Hall, for your race number and sportident dibber. Registration opens at 09.00 – 383 entries so can some of you please register early to help spread the load!
Apologies for late change.
Just found out my van is off the road (potentially indefinitely...) due to fuel tank leakage so...
I have a potential entry available for Sunday. I'd need to get in touch with Jon Broxap re: substitutions so close to day of race first. Anyone interested?
Good luck one and all enjoy the amazing howgills, have tried every crazy internet remedy but can not shift chest infection so not going to make start, gutted
Those narrow muddy paths traversing sloping terrain do not get any easier - and was that a bit of sleet at one stage? Thanks to the marshals and the RO - a tough event.
Wouldn't have fancied marshalling the top of the Calf today, I had to put some gloves on there it was freezing, big thanks to all Marshals stuck out in that!
Also well done to Victoria Wilkinson, obliterating the womens record by over 5 minutes!
I was thinking of you all as i was getting blown around and rained on during my low level run today, probably the worst type of weather for this event.
Many thanks to Jon and all his helpers. It must of been pretty grim for today's marshals but you wouldn't of known it, everyone of them shouted encouragement.....what stars these guys are.
Well done to Rob and Vic on their victories.
I can't believe Vic smashed the course record in those conditions. It was pretty dire, especially with the strong wind.
Steady one for me, not that it was easy, my legs are still mashed.

It is always a joy to talk to you at a race, tell me again about Darwen Gala?
Jonathan is a great organiser of a classic race-Long As are what fellrunning is really all about- and marshals are always pleased to turn out for him for all he has done for fellrunning, including serving on the FRA Committee for 20+ years.
As for Denis Wood and myself on the top of Castley Knotts in the wind and the rain, it was pleasing that only one of the 268 runners had his number on his thigh (and so was unreadable) but even more pleasing that most of the field thanked the marshals as they passed.
Graham
I had my number under my waterproof for the entire race Graham, normally I would wear it on my leg in those conditions so I could easily remove/add layers but if it's preferable to wear it under a cag then that's what I'll do. I'm thinking of getting a race belt if some sort actually so I can stick it over the top
Graham,
This was myself with the number on the shorts. I thought it was the logical thing to do as I was looking to wear my jacket for the majority of the race. I was told at the finish line by Johnathon where I apologised for my ignorance to the rules (new to this game see). Sorry for any confusion.

Enjoyed a chat with marshal on Kinder - making sure he knew how grateful us runners are to chaps such as he.
Tim
It's OK. Not a problem. No witch hunt.
But with a wide funnel to accommodate two Sportident dibber boxes as we had at CP2 today it is impossible to read a number on a runner's thigh on the far side of the funnel but the runner will assume it can be read and run straight through.
A runner with a number under a cag. knows it cannot be read and so generally comes to the CP and the marshal "prepared" to lift the cag briefly to display the number.
Regards,
Graham

Well - the quest for that top 50 spot in an English Champs race continued today... in what seemed like 3 seasons in 1 race.
Blogorama - with not many photos... I'm afraid I didn't take my camera on the run with me.

good day out, and thanks to the marshals.
(I shall not get drawn into numbers on shorts debate, I shall not get drawn into numbers on shorts debate,I shall not get drawn into numbers on shorts debate,I shall not get drawn into numbers on shorts debate,I shall not get drawn into numbers on shorts debate,I shall not get drawn into numbers on shorts debate)
ha ha - aye, Winder not Kinder. I'd never been to either before today and it was tough holding on to a map - never mind reading the small print.

Greta blog as usual Tim. Looking at the split times, I never got more than 2 mins ahead of you. We were between 1 and 2 mins apart throughout the race. I felt like I was going backwards from the Calf onwards so very pleased not to get pipped right at the end. A pretty epic race!
Many thanks to the Marshals and Jon and the organisers for a memorable day out on the hills. Weather wasn't toooo bad in the end!
I can, indeed, confirm that it was on the top of Winder that we had our chat - I don't think that Jon would have been too pleased if I'd set up my checkpoint on top of Kinder :D
It's also worth thinking on the fact that many of the marshals for a given race could well be competitors on the next, we've just chosen to play a different role on that day. I know that generally the runners are grateful, because I'm generally grateful to the marshals who put the time in to the races I run in. I enjoy my day out whether I'm racing or marshalling, no better, no worse, just different. It helps keep races relevant and builds the sense of community - maybe more people should try it rather than chasing their tails on Facebook and the Forum?
Challenging event.
Thanks to organiser and marshals who endured some rotten conditions with the wind and rain.
That was my 1st and last AL race. Why anyone wants to be out for that or more time is clearly not of sound mind and body in my opinion.
