Sorry - I was assuming it had been corralled here by the powers that be.
how much up and down is there on it does anyone know by chance ?
old un, according to Tracklogs with carefully plotted route it's 21.8 miles with 3,063 feet of ascent.
Multiterrainer, thanks for posting the entry form link. My entry's now in the post.
I love this one. It'll be my 13th consecutive year.
cheers nick, wow 13th year you must enjoy it !!! im popping an entry in post tom myself
It was a mud fest last year...I'll be entering again!!
I'll be along again, really enjoyed it last year. looking for sub 4 this year after taking a wrong turn very near the end.
my gps track from last year was 23.16m and 3,178ft (but i did at least a mile extra, but probably not much more ascent.)
And a strong head wind to fight against going westwards accross the moor after Lanshaw Lad as I recall. It's a regular fixture for me as well.
Probably worth entering fairly early as it filled up with a few weeks to go last time leaving quite a few people disappointed.

I ran just about the right route in 2010 and my Garmin made it 21.9 miles with 2,987 ft ascent. I then did it as a training run a few weeks later and got lost twice, which put me closer to Superflyguy's trace!Quote:

Will be doing some recces of the part from Burley to Guisley to make sure I don't do that again (and hope it's not too misty again)
Dino - I think I'm going to do this one too, it's pretty local for me as well. If you want company for another training run let me know!
Shame this won't be quite as boggy as last year due to the stone slabs over to Keighley Gate ! I stepped in a puddle right up to my middle last year !
ooh i do like a good mud fest, entry filled and ready for postman in morning
Haven't actually been up there recently but thinking of doing a partial recce sometime soon (even though I know it backwards by now) so will have a look. I imagine this might actually get me a much faster time though, bog stuff does seem to sap my strength quite a lot, so I should have much more left for the final climb if this section has been sorted out a bit.
I preferred the more recent years when it's been frozen and covered with snow. There's nothing like running down the moors in 6 inches of virgin powder without a care in the world, kicking up the ice crystals onto the breeze and feeling them caress your face. The bog skin still bounced like a big trampoline, though. Only an ice age would deep freeze that.
That's my entry in................
i run out of cheques in my cheque book so have to wait for new one before i can post entry
I do this every year as well. No excuses not to since I live about 800metres from the start. It also has the best cake:miles ratio of any other event I've done.
That's a good enough excuse to do any race Podro ! It's why I love the LDWA's !
My entry went in the post last week. Should be another good un. Pie and peas after last time was cracker :p
Finally got round to posting my entry form over the weekend:thumbup:
Nice one Multi, see you there !
Jez, Multi, Rob,
I've already got my number back - just need to spend the winter months running the course. However well I think I know it, in the fog I always go wrong.
Just posted my entry so hope to see you all there (and stick near someone who knows the way? ;)
It's always on my winter list. I'll try and stay with you if I can Rob!
Quick question about the start - do you have to take the road straight opposite the start and then nip through the ginnal to the road round the back of the retail park, or do you think it's alright to go around to the left and head straight down the side of the retail park? It would save queuing at that silly narrow bit/gap at the end of the road.
Or is this not really in the spirit of the event?
I can't understand why they don't walk everyone down to the retail park and start the race at the top of that road instead of crossing the main road anyway. It would be much better and far safer.
No-one's really going to bother. I've known LDWA events where people have put in their own diversions of several miles...
But you're right, the spirit is to go with everyone else; remember that basically it's a group walk that allows runners to join in.
I'm not sure that saving a few seconds at the start is all that important anyway, unless you're extremely fast and looking to be among the leaders, and if that's the case, you ought to be at the bottleneck before the crowds arrive. If you think it's going to be significant, you can always sprint from the start. Personally, I intend to jog along and chat to people, and if I have to stand still for a few moments at a narrow point I won't worry.
Oh, and I agree it would make sense to have the start across the A65.
Though there'd be less time to spread out the field, and the bottleneck would be worse....
That sounds familiar http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...787#post456787 :o
Ran the section from Guiseley to Menston and then back along the road today. Hard work - especially into the wind on Baildon/Ilkley moor.
The paving slabs from the trig point to Whetstone Gate make a huge difference on that section. So much easier to run! You will though, be pleased to hear I managed to find some good bogs on the way up to the 12 Apostles and then up to the trig point and also from Whetstone gate up to Buck stones.
I bet the section immediatey after the wall on the way up to the 12 Apostles was like a lake!
I was expecting it to be, but it actually wasn't much worse than on the actual day last year (maybe even slightly better?) - and the water was considerably warmer than the icy cold stuff we had last year.
The section between Whetstone Gate and Buck Stones was much better than I expected - the puddles and bogs were only shin deep, rather than knee deep as they were last year.
I think the stone slabs have spoilt it (the race, I know the area needs protecting) to be honest. I enjoyed disappearing up to my knees in the bogs last year ! I don't like anything resembling a road !
who holds the record for this race? I guess it could be under threat with the much easier ground with the trod now?
I've got my entry in. It's a birthday treat for me. ;o)
I think that's a bit of an overreaction! - It's only 500m (out of 35km) or so of slabs (and some of them were there anyway) - just from the Trig point to Whetstone Gate. If you really want to run through the bogs on either side of it, then you can still do so. The road section from Bleach Mill through Menston is far longer! As is the run down from Yorkgate to the finish and the bit through Esholt...
