Thanks Marvin. I think you have settled where we all went in the recce.
Huwski's group B, the others A (followed by me about twenty minutes later:o )

phew thanks for helping me sort that out in my head! i know what I did last year - I retraced my steps for about 20metres then took a sharp left to head straight for the edge and down route B - anyway - have fun - I'm not even doing it!
[QUOTE=alwaysinjured;46367]
I use the straight line to grey knotts ( not far from the fence , just deviating from the fence line left to stay on grass - well worth doing) then from left of grey knotts it is straight N for a good line on grass , then swing round in the lower sections to come down a tongue of grass left of the quarry./QUOTE]
Now that the Scafell descent seems to be sorted out, can anyone clear this up for me? alwaysinjured posted it a couple of weeks ago. Trying to follow it on the map, I'm not sure where 'left of grey knotts' is. How far left, and of which part of grey knotts? The summit? It sounds like a good route, and I'd rather hit a grassy line than a rocky one.
t was indeed a very good and runable line although the speed demons left us slower minions fending for ourselves so we missed the 'perfect' line all the way down and sort of zig zagged although still runable.
huwski wuwsji will be able to zap some technicla infor over the cyber thingy to give you specifics but I can't remember a great deal as a) I was knackered, b)was at the back and c) coouldn't see a bloody thing cos of the clag!
when we past brandreth we just ran down to the fence and kept to the fence line, we didnt cross the first stile and go to the left of grey knotts.
marvin and myself were a little confused but we found a nice run down to honister but we found it to late on
so our group are a little unwise, will veering left of grey knotts really save that much time, im not so sure
Thanks everyone. Have PMd Huwski.
I know we've all been here before but can someone recommend a good campsite for myself and the family. If not in Rosthwaite, then somewhere not too far away?
Daleside - what was your finishing time last year (re. you meeting the Honister cut off by a few minutes)?
Stop Press! Split times for the slowers members of the fell running community!
Here are the long awaited split times - guaranteed to get you round in time for the cut off (pending no unexpected happenings!) memorise these numbers - repeat them as a mantra every day between now and 4 Aug!
BB - 50
EH - 1:48
SP - 2:22
SH - 2:57
GG - 3:32
HP - 4:19 (thats 11 minutes to spare)
DH - 4:53
Finish - 5:37
Narrative - Last year I was never more than 5 mins either side of these times (even though I was trying to run faster) and finished in 5:39. I took these splits with me on the day (in my head!) I had worked them out as percentages of Huwski's 2005 race times. I based them on a safe margin of ten minutes before the Honister Pass cut off (4 hours and 30 mins) - I had hoped to be ahead of them but I was bang on or behind at nearly every check point. I was quite surprised to look back at them last week and realise how close the estimated finish time was to real finish time!
Thanks Daleside:D
think it will be black marker pen on the back of the hand as oppose to commiting to 'memory' ;)

Off up to the Lakes this weekend as well :-) Nice little trot from Dunmail Raise to Scafell planned for Saturday. Hope the weather's ok.
I walked over most of the course earlier in the week, I don't there will be any problem finding the route, the runners path is well warn in!!
Cool, I might have a jog round most of the course, be missing out the pike though.
Next saturday - 21st.
10am for a half 10 start in the scarfell hotel carpark (£3 all day parking)
Any more for any more??
(banana cake for all finishers! ;) )
shhhshhh! no is was just doing a backwards wasdale recce - late!
as you know and I have stated on here I'm not doing the borrowdale race and I'm definatly not doing the dalehead section today either!
AND I'm not competition for emmi - we are just one big happy family and its not a race! (Ps may see you next week at the 'scafell hotel', please note spelling - just incase anyone is trying to look it up in thier sat nav!!!)
can anyone turn up for this recce your all doing ?
Take a look at the wasdale thread, and you will see that a runner on wasdale went down the corridor route.... only to discover that he was in the wrong place when he got to sty head.
Now that would have been roughly 40 mins before daleside was seen on gable...
Bet I know who that runner saw in the mist, and followed.........so did anyone zoom past daley?
I cant believe you are accusing me of sending someone off course!!! -ME ! - I was sporting tousers, a jumper and tea cosy on Saturday - no one is likely to mistake me for a proper wasdale runner like you guys in shorts and numbers!
(also we came up from seathwaite up to sty head direct up the sty head pass way (not the borrowdale route) so unless he came off gable and just did a comlete 180 and followed us back up it - not guilty! - - I did read that on the thread and thought poor fella) may be he thought - well while I'm here - I'll just check these scree runs (A,B and C!) and these lines off the corridor route I've heard about for the borrowdale!! its so difficult to get a weekend away in the lakes you see!
Id really like to do the Lingmell Dash you see which is on saturday afternoon. i suppose I could start the race then from the top of lingmell - trot down to the coll, then across to the corridor route down to sty head and back down to wasdale by the stream there just in time for prize giving, thereby doing a race and a recce on the same day............i believe thats how we are racing these days...............
He must have recognised the tea cosy from the fellrunner :)Quote:

Sorry to bring this up again but is this route B down the scree gully Huwski? Do you have a map trace of the route?Quote:
Route D heads back down path came up on and shoot a bearing over a rock on the grassy plateau that looks like a turtle(seriously!) and you hit the top of the screes bang on
Never been down that gully yet and Im not going to have time for a full recce and reckon this would be quckest way off Scafell pike so I'll check it out before the race.
Bill
I won't be there.
Dropping owt....what up wi ya man!!!!!
hopefully amanda will give me another pass out for saturday :o
i think she thinks borrowdale is my mistress:rolleyes:
how long are we planning for the recce, cant do 7 hrs like last time cos i will miss the pub
emmi are you going to write down all the bearings and cut off times
keep your packsack light, dont bother with a drink or owt , water on the way and stuff.
Yes - will write down all the spilt times from DS - have my garmin route and will scribble bearings on something too!!
Hopefully not 7 hours Daz no - but if you want to we can drive to Honister leave your pick up there and you can shoot off from the quarry if you like and miss dalehead out if we/you are pushed for time??
I'm not a time restraint sat night as noone is home so will stay in Keswick for tea I think?? although still don't want to be out running as long as last time
I'm just taking some gels and half the water Daz as yes will fill up on route and hardly think it will be el scorchio!
I'm hoping the enforced week off running will help not hinder as I was going great guns up until the sodding school holidays!! hoefully my legs will be all fresh and springy like???
Have you thought about camping on the friday night? Is that possible?
will you be ok to get there for 10 - still not sure how many are coming
EVERYONE..............where are you:confused:
Here!!
Right, got to decide our plan but reckon we might drive up early Saturday, meet at 10ish, do the run, then head off to stay in/near Keswick for the night.
Good idea about the car at Honister...I think Juicer might like the idea of a get-out option there which doesn't involve running along roads!
Options for Sunday - it's the Coniston Fair!! Includes a race up and down....be rude not to!!:D
