I was listening to this after dropping the daughter's boyfriend off. I love Westwood, he's a legend. Going in hard and strong!:D

Only heard PE's Fight the Power though:cool:. What else was in there if it was all dross?

Westwood is becoming a parody of himself. The dross is stuff like JayZ being at number 1. He's an okay pop act, but it's hardly ground breaking stuff like Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, Afrika Bambaata was?

Alas, the problem with all such lists when voted for by the people. I don't know what the criteria was for this list. From what I heard it was 'most hip-hop'. What does that actually mean? Most influential? Most ground-breaking? As for Jay-Z, in terms of what hip-hop is today, with his personal influence - as artist, producer, label owner, fashion (not to be underestimated how important fashion is to modern hip hop), etc...he has a good case, whatever your personal views. Though I do agree with you.

As for Westwood, I think he's always been a parody. Middle-class. White. Son of a preacher man (though not sure this is what Dusty had in mind:eek:). Yet he goes round in his massive rig, dressed in his hip-hop finery, and talking like he comes from downtown Brooklyn (Bucks.). Was he ever anything but? I just enjoy him for what he is. And if you listen to the George Lamb show on 6 Music on a Friday, they always have him on over the phone tipping the latest hip-hop joint.. Very good comedy value that. Tune in if you can.:D:D

(This reminds me, I've still not written my alternative history of hip-hop...)

This afternoon's music is 190bpm happy hardcore through the living room wall and Radio 2 blaring out through the window; both courtesy of the fellas re-decorating my neighbour's house :( Shortly it will be King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown, played at a volume rarely heard outside an illegal blues party :cool::p
