Female Roe Deer in the woodland at the side of the A59 near Blubberhouses, plenty of pheasants around too
A 'herd' of seven red deer in the field behind the house on my evening jaunt. Not seen them out in the open before, usually just glimpses when out on the trails of Grizedale. Very good views, very curious
Startled a flock of geese today on Bingley moor, scared the bloody life out of me. They kept flying back over my head honking at me as well.
pretty sure I saw a snipe today, lots of Hares, curlews, lapwings.
Sparrow Hawk took a starling on our back garden at Penistone. Just a flurry of feathers and then it was away with its lunch.
Two wildlife encounters this weekend. The first was two baby rabbits trying to avoid being seen after my dog dug down to them in the garden. I felt a bit sorry for them, but they were just next to the vegetable patch. Max was very restrained once we'd found them.
And finally, our first two swallows. :)
Oooh I'm jealous of the swallows. I got buzzed by some greylags on my river run and raced by two wee lambs! Everything is so gorgeous at the moment. Blackthorn blossom is out, celandines, violets, anemones, wild garlic...I love spring!!!
Not current, but forgot to post that I saw a kingfisher at the end of last year whilst running at Worthington Lakes near Wigan. Surprisingly 'dull' whilst sitting in the shade, but as soon as it took flight the colours were incredible.
Kingfishers are wonderful, their iridescence always amazes me.
I saw a little hedgehog tonight. It was wandering across the road and I had to brake hard not to squash it. Luckily I was able to wait for it to recover itself and potter off into the hedgerow. A small vole shot out as well and I managed to miss that too. Am not enjoying toad slalom, those amorous amphibians make driving to my friend's house very tricky. Sometimes I have to get out and carry a dozen or so to the side of the road so I can get through.
