PSG must have money to burn to spend that much on a player like him?

How did Messi get the Golden Ball?!? It's not a best reputation prize. Neuer was the player of the tournament - he was immense throughout.
I thought Zabaleta and Demichellis were excellent in the final. Boateng was also excellent and Lahm finally found some form though Argentina allowed him too much space. Mascherano was giving the ball to everyone except his own team mates? I was glad it didn't go to penalties and the Germans were better in extra time and deserved to win it
Messi had a decent tournament but it does tend to go to attacking players.
I'd have gone for Rodruiguez
Someone who had stepped up a level from what they were previously known or a great who stood out.. which I don't think Messi did.
I thought Schweinsteiger was excellent for Germany.
Of the top 4 teams I didn't think they had many stand out performers. The Germans were classically German, dominant, powerful, well organised, good football.
But I'm not convinced this is a great German team.
Yes, I know what you mean. It's like Germany were the best team in the tournament, but the other teams weren't special either. When France or Spain won it in recent years, they had a core of really world class players who just happened to have come together at the right time. I don't think Germany have this, but their physicality and their team ethic have made up for it. It's great to see a team do this, as it's a lesson to the rest of us.
I see Blatter is 'surprised' that Messi got the Golden Ball. I therefore fully agree that Messi should've got it!
Yeah it was the best world cup I've seen, but that was because everyone could beat everyone...
I think the dutch missed an opportunity, they probably had the most talent stacked team, but RVP looked shattered the whole tournament.
My main disappointment was the African teams, I fancied one of them to cause a shock this year but they were pretty disappointing on the whole.
Germany deserved to win, just on the quality of their WAGS… absolutely superb array of talent they displayed at the end..
"How can England do a Germany?" they are asking. Last World Cup it was "How can England do a Spain?" and the answer is still the same of developing younger players just as Spain and Germany did and give them a chance to play at the highest level. Meanwhile if they want to loan them out to a lower league club to get them started I know just the team who will take them :D
I think we are doing that..
But we need to reduce the cost of english players.. Look at Luke Shaw?
How many professional appearances? less than 50.. less than 5 caps… 30 million..
If he was italian or spanish we'd pay a third of that price.. Man U have stumped up the cash so a young englishman will get experience of top level football but how many other clubs would do that? and you can't blame them..
Meanwhile at Leeds.....
I miss Danbo.. we're now reduced to Swoops occasional swooping in to keep this thread humorous…
I'm quite excited by next year… must admit I had my concerns about Van Gaal due to his age but you could see the Holland players played for him.
I feel for Moyes, he put the effort in but that start mauled him and he went defensive and you can't do that at Old Trafford.
Oh, I don't know, if Man U's demise continues that'll be good for a laugh.
Anyone prepared to stick their neck out with PL predictions for next year? Very, very hard to call.
With Van Gaal and an improved squad it's hard not to see Man U back in the mix for CL places, but unless that defence gets an overhaul I'd say a title challenge is out.
Liverpool without Suarez? Arsenal with Sanchez? It's got to be City and Chelsea again for the top two spots with a total dog fight between Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool for the other two CL spots. I think Liverpool will lose out. Can't see Spurs and Everton (or anyone else) getting a look in.
Not sure.. Liverpool played out of their skin last year and without Suarez I can't see them doing as well, but I couldn't anyway… plus Stevie G is one year older..
I'm not sure Arsenal will be that much stronger, still defensively week. I'm not convinced by Sanchez.
City top, United/Chelsea competing for 2nd, Arsenal 4th, Liverpool 5th,
Everton depends on Lukaku, or they need a big goal scorer.
United ftw
That was ok surely!!?
As for predictions...I really think Man U will go top. It won't fill me with glee, but I think van Gaal will sort them, and get van Persie back on his game. I've a feeling Rooney may get side lined. The only caveat to this is the time he has before the season opener, getting players in and seeing the ones he has at first hand. He won't stand for any 'attitude'. No idea what Leeds will do as the players coming in will need to settle, and I've no idea who, or how good half of them are!? We could be superb ar carbage....though Hockaday does'nt fill me with vast confidence, and I assume Cellinio will be part-time manager anyway....
Assume it will be car crash stuff, and then be pleasantly surprised when they get it right once a decade. It's the best idea when it come to Leeds. The Mansfield result is not good, even if only a pre season, think Vivani went back to Italy to assess things after seeing how grim Leeds were.

I was impressed by Middlesbrough yesterday as they easily beat the Dale. After beating Wigan and losing to Bolton (though playing well!) the pre-season friendlies were going ok for Dale up to yesterday. Still the Boro can splash out millions on players and we have to sell our best striker Scott Hogan to balance the books that's life in the lower leagues :D
My tip for promotion from the Championship this year will be Middlesbrough
Why do they have undisclosed transfer fees ? Wouldn't it show in the club's accounts anyway at the end of the financial year. If it was the only player you sold that year then it should be easy to identify under the 'sale of players' heading ?
Some rumours from the BBC gossip column:
Man United might be signing £30m rated Roma defender Mehdi Benatia (who?) and Vermaelen for £15m.
Man City are after Porto's Eliaquim Mangala for £32m. Again, who?
I thought football had jumped the shark when Leeds paid £7m for Seth Johnson, but money these days is just crazy.
By the way, would anyone be interested in a forum fantasy footy league? If you are, say in this thread and I'll set one up (the proper FA game).
Swansea go top!! Man U bottom!! :)
btw Hank. Apologies for a lack of response. Fantasy League is a great idea, but unfortunately I never maintain my interest, especially in Premiership, or by proper FA game do you mean Championship?
come back danbert this thread needs you
WooHoo! we won a game!
Mr Head will have a big grin on his face tonight..Shrimps top of the league :D
So Hockaday is to remain in post. Not sure wether to be pleased or not. I'd say the guy at least deserves an opportunity as he is in post. He's got a fair few new players he knows nothing about, so it'll take time to sort out his best 11/16. My guess is Cellino is biding his time while he sounds other people out. Would have been better for all concerned if he had gone for someone else.
Excellent performance by City tonight....Liverpool should have brought on the ex-Dale player earlier.
MK Dons 2 - man u 0 after 63 minutes;)
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has brushed aside the rags early exit from the League Cup by saying that they are concentrating on the Premier League this season - and trying to stay in it!!
Looking like a interesting match for United on Sat against fellow relegation candidates Burnley.
Di Maria is being looked on as the new Best/Giggs/Beckham all put together so no pressure on the lad  He is a butterfly about to be crushed on the wheel of Old Trafford expectation :(
