Up the front of Wansfell - 100 steps fast, 40 walking, 100 fast, etc, trying to work harder than normal. Too windy to stand on the summit, and back down like a nancy on the steep wet stuff.
Am trying to get going after a several months illness and fatigue. Just finished 4th week of training averaging 30 miles per week inc some races, but am frighteningly behind in fitness for time of year.
Did Calder valley way this pm, thought trail shoes were a good idea but did not take into account the fact a couple of hundred people on the Hebden had run most of the same route so it was a bit slippy. Slow run round (3.15) but furthest run since last May and helps move my head on a bit. Dog loved it.
7.7 miles 950' mostly road with a little reservoir embankment work thrown in.
27mile road run yesterday, hopefully the last bit of tarmac bashing for a good long while. Doing nowt but drinking tea and snoozing on the sofa today, legs are knackered.
Just over 40miles for the week
Ten miles and 1400 ft ups in 1:40. From Pennine way A62 Up old pw, on a bearing across to new pW, Blakely clough, Wessendedn, west Nab & home. Got blown off the path at West Nab, a tad breazy.
Practised being a kite today , good fun around Kinder Edges and nice to see a few like minded runners on the way .
20 road miles/2.38 on Saturday, Stanbuary Splash yesterday, today... likely just a slow 5 to get the muscles moving again later on.
12 miles today. Some great views of bowfell and the langdales from above Kendal.
Parked in Langdale and up to Sergeant Man, then BG route to Bowfell, on over the Crinkles, Pike o' Blisco and back to the car. Some pretty unpleasant snow showers early on blowing through on an icy wind, but it turned fairer as the morning went on. Was surprised at how much snow there was going up the rakes on Bowfell; I was kicking steps a couple of times.
Bad Step was interesting, especially as at the top I saw some recent footprints that seemed to suddenly vanish and a stray crampon away at the bottom of the step. I wondered what I might find down there, thinking someone might've had a fall. Turns out the bloke had picked a route off to the left of the step and contrived to lose his crampon on the way down. I found this out after catching him up and re-uniting him with his crampon!
