Made me miss my train this morning
Haha! Well although I had to drive all the way to work  I did make it in time for my PAT testing course, so I am fully qualified to come and stick a green sticker on you ;) (assuming you pass the PAT test of course!)
Top of Loughrigg is snow free, though there is plenty higher up. A lot of the ground is frozen, with the occasional patch of sheet ice. These can be difficult to see until you are on top of them - it depends on the angle/quality of the light. Take care.
Beast from the East, coming to the outdoors near you soon.
Not strictly snow but called in at a place of work yesterday as I saw some lights on. It's a steep drive down a narrow private lane. no worries on the road totally clear pulled on to the drive with out a thought, it looked clear to the bottom but almost instantly i was sledgeing down water ice, the road gets steeper with an iron bar gate and dry stone wall at the bottom. Mid way down there is a passing place, how I don't know but managed to slide the car sideways up a grass bank which stopped me going to the bottom and hitting the gate/wall.
I managed to straighten the car up but the road was covered in 1/4 inch of verglass, i couldn't even stand up with out sliding down the road....
It's now getting dark I'm 2 miles from habitation, there's no one in the building! It's impossible to move the car on the ice?????
Inspiration and some "Ice cold in Alex" thinking. I have 4x50cm carpet mats in the boot to stand on whilst changing after running.
So 50 m up this track in sheet ice I inched my way up.
Carpet down drive 50 cms put next 2 mats down-drive 50cm- pick up mat behind tyre and put in front drive 50cms repeat approx 100 times and an hour later I crept on to the road....
Moral of the story Carpet is great to get you out of trouble on ice
