9,348 at Burnley tonight, who says that the FA Cup has lost its magic?
Why do we have our centre half taking corners....
I wonder why they are filming scenes for the next Rocky film at Goodison Park tonight
Great game tonight between Liverpool and Chelsea. Already looking forward to the second leg
I found another "Freeview" http://sportlemon.org/soccer
They are looking for volunteers to shift the snow off the frost cover at Rochdale tomorrow at 9am to prepare the pitch for the cup tie on Monday against Stoke. I have already put Mrs Alf's name down so if you are in the area and would like a good cardio-vascular workout shifting snow they will not turn you away :D
Tony Bellew (a big Evertonian) plays the baddie, 'Pretty' Ricky Porter in the Rocky spinoff, Creed.
good win for the whites tonight phew!
Well done the Bantams.
Didn't see that one coming; neither did Jose.
Didn't he say it would be "a disgrace" if Chelsea lost to Bradford?
The post-match interview should be interesting!
Well, I've seen the interview and he did indeed say it was a disgraceful performance by his millionaires.
Bet some stern words will be spoken this week.
PS No wonder Danbert has gone to ground, he could see it coming. ;-(
I normally berate football fans for their blinkered view of reality and overstating single results. However, in this instance I'd like to point out that this means that Bradford City are better than all the teams in the Premier League (even when they lose next round).
Stuart Pearce gone. That has been on the cards for a while.
As a supporter of Forest it was great to hear of him coming back to the club, he has a great connection with the crowd, one that very few players will ever experience. As a manager though I have never been convinced by him. But why oh why have Forest suddenly named Dougie Freedman as his replacement ..... Dougie who? He hardly has a good record in management, but eveyone deserves a chance to prove themselves I suppose. I wish the club had not knee jerked on this decision and it would be interesting to know the details of if the owner is interfering like Biloy Davies said
Pearce would do well to stay out of management, maintain his reputation.
And so the Premier League TV rights change hands for several billion, it immediately becomes apparent that the extra money will be disappearing in wages not in reducing prices for your average fan and the whole bandwagon rolls on.
Meanwhile, on a cold Tuesday night in Oldham, a team that's 6th in League One can attract less than 3,500 fans to see them beat 2nd in the league Swindon. The trickle-down effect of the Premier League riches is about as effective as the Tory approach to the economy!
But, unlike other European countries, our lower leagues will survive (somehow) because the fans are passionate and there are always some heartwarming stories to inspire us. Take a few moments, if you will, to read the one linked below.
Walsall have barely had a sniff of getting to Wembley in their 127 year history and now.....we're going! It may only be the JPT final, but it'll be a grand day out. And, to celebrate and commemorate this, this inspiring fan has decided that he's going to walk the 138 miles to get there, to raise money for a local charity which supported his grandfather, who was a supporter for 78 years despite being deaf and blind. Go and take a read, be inspired and, if you feel able, donate some pennies to an inspiring adventure and a worthwhile cause. If only a fraction of those billions paid for TV rights could be diverted to such causes!

PS: Any comments about it being better to be deaf and blind if you support Walsall are deemed entirely inappropriate in the context of this matter!! ;-)
I was amused yesterday on the radio that Mr Premier League was saying some of this money would go to fans. How does that work? Surely fans pay to watch matches not the other way around. If clubs can charge £50 a ticket and fill their grounds, then they'd be stupid not to.
Stupid not to? You're basing that, presumably, on a short-term, profit-is-all approach. Compare and contrast with the Bundesliga. Sometimes you need to take the longer view and make everything sustainable. Short-termism plagues our society, including in our approach to football.
Anyway, swap your premier league ticket for a decent local non-league match and put the difference to that guy walking to Wembley!
Yes. What's the benefit to the club of making less money from a full ground?
You could argue that by keeping tickets expensive, they make it so individuals can't afford to go to all the matches. This in turn means that other people get a chance to buy tickets for occasional games. This increases clubs' fan bases in the long-term.
The weird thing about the Premier League asking people to pay up to £90 (!!) to watch a game, is that it is sustainable. For all the grumbling from the media, people are literally queuing up to give their money away.
Sustainable for how long? 5 years? 10 years? The long-term? The Premier League has become what it is not because of traditional football supporters, but because it's become the trendy thing for the posher classes. Within my lifetime, when I applied for a job I was told in no uncertain terms NOT to put football supporter on my list of interests because I'd been seen as the "wrong sort" by a potential employer. Now I hear tales of interviews where they ended up chatting about the state of the Arsenal more than they did about the job! Football can be dropped again, and a unique factor in English football has always been the pyramid structure which sees teams way down the leagues still playing professionally and attracting good numbers to watch them. That's disappearing and, the more the greed continues in the top level, the more it filters down such that many smaller clubs will not be able to compete any more.
So, there's the benefit of "making less money from a full ground". The bigger picture. As I said first time, what about the Bundesliga? The biggest clubs charge a fraction of Premier League prices and fill their grounds (highest average attendance in Europe), yet they make a profit despite broadcast income being a fraction of the Premier League. They pay less out in wages as a percentage of revenue than the Premier League yet few would argue that the standard isn't as good. We keep peddling this lie that the Premier League has to keep paying more and more to attract players, it's just not true.
If I were an employer, I'd consider anyone who listed their main hobby as watching football as a bit dull. Not like in the bad old days when you needed proper dedication to go and stand on the terraces in the driving rain.
It's an interesting assertion about the Bundesliga. Perhaps the German public wouldn't be prepared to pay as much as the UK public. That could be to do with the very successful branding and promotion of the Premier League.
The German clubs have to make do with what they have. And I agree they do it very well. But I don't see the fact that they are unable to charge as much as clubs do over here as an argument that it would be better for English clubs to reduce their prices.
Bayern Munich has a higher wage bill than Man Utd and Chelsea. Barcelona have an even higher wage bill (and have won a lot in recent years). So money clearly helps.
The PL is a morally bankrupt cess pit of greed and self interest !

They don't piss about in the Conference:D
Well played Arsenal.
The refer referee had a storming game. Well done Arsenal.
Richard head did you see the mighty pools win yesterday? Hope springs eternal in our battle for league survival, never say die....
Yes I was there, a good turn out of Pools fans. Stranger things have happened Rev, especially after the win at Oxford. York away in a few weeks looks like a crunch match for you, then it could all go down to Carlisle away in the last match of the season.
Meanwhile it's all pretty dire at Morecambe, the only hope is that we've got enough points in the bag because it don't look like we will get many more
A date for your diaries, World Cup Final 18th December 2022
Premier League - best league in the world :D:D
i'll take a win today at home to put us right on the coat tails of the rest...
our fans have been unreal this season considering the dire fare offered up and the plight of the club, the atmosphere generated home and away has been immense. The vic has been rocking lately, the atmosphere from start to finish today will be electric as everyone in the ground gets behind the team, I had tears in my eyes last home game such was the outpouring of passion by the crowd even when we were rocked by a 90th minute defeat :/ 2 away wins have restored hope and reduced ticket prices will see about 5000 in today i reckon, they will be no finer place to be than in victoria park at 1500 today, never say die
and I literally cannot wait for the away days to york and then carlisle last day of season, if everything goes down to that final game i don't think i'll be able to take it...
Well your win and Accy's last minute equaliser against York have certainly tightened things up Rev.
Glad I gave today's trip to Carlisle a miss, Morecambe seem to have attracted a 'firm' of local morons who have been spoiling for a fight for a few weeks and apparently found some of similar ilk today who were only too happy to oblige
So despite appointing Advocaat as manager it was another defeat for Sunderland today. The players have clearly not heeded the warninks. :)
More Dutch courage needed Swoop?
