Shame about the commentator ITV4 are using for the Vuelta.
Also wish Ned Boulting could keep his manic head still when he emphasises a point.

I am with Toffer too... recently Herefordshire council has at last made an attampt at seeming to care about our roads... by tarring the badly potholed lanes and drooping a shedload of chippings on them, hence hiding the holes and making it a lethal surface for cycling on...
The Gospel Pass has been affected in that way too, so Monmouthshire and Powys are just as bad :( it really makes riding the hills a dangerous activity that one would like to avoid, rather than the pleasure it used to be... grumble grumble rant rant
Can I chime in?? They did the road from mine out to the A38 a month or so back. Because they just lobbed more crap on the top, the iron work is way more recessed than it should be and on the railway bridge that gets used by 40 ton wagons there is no longer any difference between the height of the road and the pavement. As to why B & Q continue to use a depot where they do is beyond me... Ahh.. yes I remember why, it's 'Crown Land' and you don't need planning permission to build on it.
I'd complain but I doubt they'd even acknowledge the complaint. Staffordshire County Council can't even be arsed to reply to my complaints that they haven't cut the grass verges all year.
My Dad used to organise a race for the LVRC around the Cotswolds. Most years the roads were so bad he had to go out with some tarmac, a shovel and a broom to fill holes and sweep crap off the corners himself.
Well I've avoided road cycling again today - just as well with all this tarmac controversy ;) although it's pretty much due to having small peeps on holiday demanding feeding every half an hour.:sneaky:
So, 60 minutes on the rollers for me, 50 in the 12 sprocket - oh my god...sweat?? eeeek:eek: my legs ache now :o
My croissant run is 100 metres to the village shop :D
I spent a couple of weeks in Bourg d'Oisans & another 10 days near Clermont Ferrand on my summer hols this year & the ride for the daily pain au chocolat aux amandes was the most righteous bit of exercise I got done.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G8l83TYBjI
this is a good tune for the rollers
Not really today's ride - more like last week's - but finally got my 9 month old out in a bike seat.....

Please note it's a hire bike!

I took my cross bike out over Haterall Ridge tonight... was good, and I reckon about 10 minutes quicker than last year... not bad :)
I wonder if Mr Rourke has made any 953 CX frames?????
Im thinking of doing a bit of winter training over my usual routes. They are perfect for crossing. Rourke will have made some cross bikes. Not sure if anyone would pay the 953 price for one. Might just stick some cantilever brakes on the mercian.
Just watching that usa challenge on eurosport. Loads of big names. Schlecks, basso,Leipheimer, etc etc etc.Ive never seen such a boring race. The road is just a straight line thats gone on for 75miles without a bend in it.Yawn
No. Waste of time. I thought abought this for my old 631 frame, but ultimately it'll just be a road bike with canti's, not a cross bike with better mud clearance, longer wheelbase, flattened top tube, different cable routing, etc...
There's a few cheap cross frames out there if you want a cheap cross frame for the winter.
The Cannondale is Wheelbase team issue, but Rob appears to use his 'old' titanium Litespeed as much as (if not more than) he uses the Cannondales! The Litespeed is certainly the bike that he's had on his shoulder when he's run all the way up Whernside, the past 2 or 3 years.
Daz, I've been toying with selling my old fillet brazed 531 IslaBike if you are interested? It's a tad too race orientated for the all round on/off roader that I now need, as I'm in the process of buying a tag-along for the 5 years old grandson and I'm considering an On-One Pompetamine Pro with the Verso/Alfine 11 speed hub and Avid BB7 discs.
Some interesting results come up when you're googling cycling clothing, particularly on the women's side of things. Like this for example:
http://www.cyclingbargains.com/produ...pg&w=114&h=300
I haven't seen many of them on the road.
*(maybe that should've gone in the Bike Porn thread!)
Dom I think planet X have a cross frame thats pretty bulletprooof
I may have a look at those.
Other than that I might have a word with Nick Craig. Im sure he has a few spare in his garage:D
I have heard that too... and it proves my point I made on my first 3 peaks, when I ran all the way down, taking the fell race route, with bike on shoulder, overtaking lots of blokes, one of which later complained about it... You are quicker running it than riding it, unless you have the bike handling skills of Nick Craig I suppose, which I certainly have not :)
Well it's binning it down here again  more like a winters afternoon than August. Another hour on the rollers done wouldn't like to be out in this downpour just now
Hann - how is the shoulder/shouldering going?
Emmi - are you just cross training or planning something bikey??
I did the supermarket shop last night and bought croissants to recreate a holiday breakfast this morning :)
I find that listening to a song over and over again helps with the mind games. Ive always done it.
Must be me but I can go a couple of hours on the same song.
The other night I listened to that song
Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name laaaaaaa laaaaaaaaa laaaaaaaaaaaaaaa laaaaaaaaaa la la la laaaaaaaaaaa la la lah.
Toffer will know that one.
Try that Barbara Streisand song by Duck Sauce for an hour
Quality.
If you can do that, no fell or bike race will phase you.
Spin bikes for me tonight. Im aiming to take the dog for a run first then slip on the back row at spin unnoticed. There may even be some Rabobank bibshorts on show
Daz - have you read/ seen "Touching the void" - crawling back to base camp with a broken leg, he can't get the song "Brown girl in a ring - tra la - lalalaa" out of his head
I could not cope with that music... actually, I can barely call it music... but I am a purist. When on the turbo or rollers doing efforts I listen to nothing... unless the owls are hooting outside or something :)
Ratfink, the shoulder has been complaining the last week or so... I think it may have something to do with the fact that I have done a fell run and been out on MTb and cross bike, as well as throwing in some really long rides (5-7 hours) to train for Three Peaks :(
Han, Daz or anyone who can help give sensible advice.
I have just purchased some Elite parabolic rollers (on ebay) for the winter, what drills or session should I be looking at to maintain a basic fitness through the dark times?
Yep, they do. I've just bought one http://www.cannondalecyclocrossbikes.co.uk/
Three Peaks Cyclocross for you next year DJ :D
Stagger, as Daz says, get used to them first, some people find it tricky... I didn't but am quite good at balancing with my yoga background. Imagine you are riding on the road, focus on a point in front of you on the floor that isn't moving and ride as if you are riding towards that point... Once you are used to the rollers, you can look around you and start doing stuff :) but I would get confident balancing, riding wth one hand and no hands first before doing sessions.
Mind, I only ever use mine to warm up on for races and if I need a recovery ride and it is dark/wet outside... Specific efforts I tend to do on the turbo... I much prefer the rollers though, less boring!
I use mine quite a lot. I try to do 1 hour sessions. Always have the i pod on. And yes i have a big variety of music but like i say dont mind the same song over and over again.TrevorMake sure you stand them next to a surface at first so you can grab onto it as you learn. Make sure your tyres are pumped up fairly high. Dont try and use to small a sprocket at first. You will sweat immensly. I always wear a cycling cap. This will be dripping like a tap after the twenty minute mark.In time they become just like any other part of training. Just have to be done. I dont really think about the time.Start looking at your watch and your doomed. You get a feel for it after a while20 x songs is about an hr.
