Great report. Thanks for your continued support of the race.
"There seemed to be some confusion over on the Carneddau on Saturday as a mass company organised event decided to organise a series of races on the same day and on the same set of hills – as a results some runners in the Foel Fras were sent the wrong way by the wrong marshalls!Despite this clash a healthy 32 runners ran the Foel Fras race route"

Was this the 'mass company organised event"?
Seemed to be almost no Eryri runners in the race so I think the local gossips had been putting the word out against it… I've said before how North Waleans think they own the hills and outsiders can't hold events there and if they do won't receive support..
Amazing though, 32 runners for a classic race like Foel Fras, high level route over 2 3000ers.. in the Lakes it would get 100-200 runners...
Seems a tad silly to blame that event, surely the FF race committee should have also known the race was on and briefed their marshals accordingly...
You'd no chance.. just holding it would have offended them..
They are at war with someone.. it was actually the Foel Fras race last time.. now you… I'd just ignore them and hold the race and don't rise to their comments...
You won't get WFRA support… ever.
Fell running is almost dead in that region.. 35 runners for a classic race FFS.. Sky running has the real opportunity to breath life into running and get people back in proper fell running terrain..
Sam, in Snowdonia 3-4 mile marked out trail races will get 60-100 runners.. classic fell races, which Snowdonia has, struggles.. Carneddau, Foel Fras, Hebog, Garn.. absolute classic fell races rarely make 50 runners…..
Its such a petty that a new classic race is being slated as some sort of anti-fell running race… basically just because they aren't involved…
I don't know the particulars, but there's a feeling in some quarters (not these!), that Skyrunning is "commercialising" fell racing and therefore a Bad Thing......Perhaps that's where the criticism is coming from? Who Knows? Don't want to turn this thread into another hugely off-topic one....Quote:

Which is just enormous ignorance… but I think you are right... but that's because they aren't the ones making the money… that's where the issue is.. I know of one committee member who's bloke runs an online entry system and makes a living from orienteering and fell events..
Lets not forget fell running has its routes in the commercialisation of the hills… the guides races.. all about the £££. The recent rat race caused issues locally but I don't think you can put this in the same bracket.. but the mountain running sec for eryri had a rant on the Facebook page for sky running about sponsors in this race so they've certainly upset them..
Why should someone not make a few quid? I don't think this race is though, 90 runners? what was it £30?
The ultras are far more commercial and you don't get this attitude.
It's just a pity that the race isn't supported locally, The Rhinogs… gone.. Foel Fras 32 runners.. Carneddau gone.. Peris 50 odd runners.. all classic races that would get hundreds in the lakes.
I suspect they'll be moaning away about this, when I was on the committee they were fuming about the Moel Eilio race being a non-club race because they do think they are fell running in the region..
