First four entries are in.
So far the system is working very well and I have excellent information on the runners experience.
The interwebby thing might just catch on!!!

A bit of a shameless bump of a thread, for no better reason than I would love to see a long fell race like this with lots of opentracking's trackers going round an AL course...see just how bad us fell runners are at navigating even on a good path!
( Now that would be embarassing, going round in circles in view of the world)
So August 9th in the wilds of S Wales - not in the calendar, because it was dreamed up after that.

Went for a little jog/walk over the pathless bit of the route at the weekend, together with a couple of trackers. Don't suppose Wheeze has mentioned that he got stuck up to waist, well nearly, and sounds more dramatic than just his legs, in a peat bog. Had to pull the old chap out (Wheeze that is)....There must be photo somewhere...
Yes, serious updating of the Event Management Plan is required.
New entry:
HAZARDS!!! Man-eating bog close to Waun Fach Summit
RISK REDUCTION STRATEGY....10 foot (2.7metre) Barbed wire fence demarcating hazardous zone, 12 fully trained bog snorkelers on standby, 2x10 ton mobile cranes and 3xballoon-tyred landrovers parked on 50 tons of hardcore safety surface adjacent to path at GR.......
Phew, this race org don't get any easier!!
On a less silly note, the trackers did show the route we took but sometimes took 45 minutes to update their position. So they cannot be relied upon for live position update at all times. But they will tell us where a missing runner has gone to....eventually.
Have been rethinking the race control and have decided to add a safety refuge extension at the CP by the north end of the reservoir...its connected by track to SR3 so is easy to service. We can check runners off the start list as they come back down from the most exposed part of the route. Simples.
Just a photo will do, wheezy brown and smelly head to toe, fresh out of the bog! great ad for the race.
The problem with waste deep bog, is when you come out minus a Walsh...
Makes the rest of the route interesting, particularly if rocky underfoot. Been there, done that.
Happy to update the race info sheets when you decide..
8 confirmed entries so far.
1 entry deferred pending the runner getting some more long distance experience (she was having a crack at Welsh 3000's!)
OK, this is big PLEASE now.
I need more volunteers for Marshalling. This is guaranteed cosy! You can even stay in your car!! You will have a satellite phone and a written list of (simple) duties. You will not be alone!
I need to get 2 willing volunteers for sweeping. This is important. Sore legs, would this be something you might want to do?
If you and your mates are willing to help please either pm me or send email to the organiser email address on the website.
THANK YOU!
Wheeze,
I will volunteer to sweep if you want me to.
Let me know so I book it in the diary...
