Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Race web site www.heptonstallfellrace.org.uk now updated with confirmed 2013 date - Sunday 17th March 2013
We are keen to get another good turnout (200-300?)
Any clubs with up coming AGMs/Fixture Planning?
You will be sure of warm welcome if you include Heptonstall in your club champs/grand prixs 2013.
Heptonstall should be a popular choice for members as its easy to get to, loads of parking, entry on day, only £5, great social at the pub, free food, and a good long route that makes it worth the journey!

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Bah - can't make it. It clashes with a Cheshire Youth Orchestra concert. You'd think Trig would have checked for an obvious clash like that before setting the date...grumble grumble. Maybe I can make a recce instead.

What time does the concert start Andy? You should finish about 13.00, then back home in Weaverham before 15.00....maybe sooner if you play Cheshire Youth Orchestra's William Tell Overture on your ipod while you run.....

They haven't published the concert details yet, so I could possibly run & get back in time. I hope so. But I'm not running with an ipod. You'll be suggesting I buy road shoes next...

Took advantage of the autumn sunshine this morning to trot round the whole route; noticed we have lost a bridge somewhere.....Attachment 6496

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
As if the course wasn't challenging enough already, this adds an extra dimension.

I can confirm that the water crossing is most refreshing and never more than knee deep - plus it got the mud off my X-Talons. There is a bridge 50m further on for those who want to keep their feet dry.

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Well Trig, if that bridge has collapsed I think the least you could do is build a new one; you managed it with the stiles t'other year!
The only thing that'll prevent me having another do, is if summat happens at the Bolton Hill marathon the week before.
The atmosphere is great for this race, if you're in two minds whether or not to do it, take my word for it, it's a great run out!

Just looked at the website, Bolton Hill looks interesting, might see if I can have a go to....Will you be bring the scud-camper as usual?
Picture of favoutite descent attached...looking forward to legging it down this on the traditional winter weekend recces/training runs

"Like" the Facebook page Jedi; looking forward to the recces.....
Thanks for the good luck message - Italy was great....
FLORENCE MARATHON 25th Nov 2012; Official Real Time 3.16 but I did the 42km in 3.14; there were 700m extra on my Garmin which I think was caused by my zig zagging through 600 runners in the first 10km.
Hence 2 additional minutes were for additional distance (700m) over and above the official marathon distance (42km); so did I do the marathon in 3.16 or 3.14?
Anyway I think I earned my beer (see below)

Well done Steve, good result that. Unfortunately it's the real time that's recorded, as Sandra found out to her dismay at London 2 years ago on her first mara heading for (and achieving on her watch) a sub 4 hour and being lumbered with 4.08

Ancient Heptonstall Felling Rites - fell runners cross border into Lancashire, fell tree, return to Yorkshire to display trophy in village square, before ritual feasting (beer and pies) in the White Lion. Trig balances on ladder trying to sort out that bulb which always goes out when you switch the lights on....

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Message from Jedi Master...
We the technobots of Heptonstall have created an impressive and rather official looking Facebook page for the race http://www.facebook.com/Heptonstallfellrace This is the best place to keep up to date with news or information relating to recces we are planning in the coming months. Simply follow the FB page by 'liking' and let your club mates know about it if they are interested in doing the race
20 plus signed up so far (Recce-Soup-Pudding Sunday 23rd December) anyone else up for it?
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
We're taking the children to a panto on the 23rd, so I won't be recceign on the 23rd. I'm fairly confident there'll be another opportunity to have a run round the route before race day though. I shall not make the mistake of going out with the group led by the Jedi Master this time though. They are very appropriately called the fast group. I had definitely suffered a burst of adrenalin in deciding to head out with them!

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
11 of us had run out today without getting wet (except for the new, knee-deep wade across Hebden Water)
Thanks to Alfa Scud and his Trawden AC club mates for popping over t'hill to Yorkshire

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
I hear you did some acrobatics for the amusement of the other runners Trig. Is this true or merely heresay? (heresy??)

Painful memories Joey...the gamekeeper had laid some duck-boards over the bogs around the Trig on Standing Stone Hill; failing to spot that one of these boards was tilting slightly to the right and covered in a thin layer ice, I confidently strode onto the death trap. Instead of leading our merry band down the glorious descent from the Trig to Blake Dene, I found myself looking at my feet rotating sideways from under me, and parallel with my face. My face was then confronted by a close up of frozen peat, thankfully my face broke the surface ice for a soft landing, but my knee caught the edge of the boarding. Must admit it smarted a bit, but it was mainly injured pride. Once the laughter died down (thanks guys) I soldiered on with slight limp to complete the 15 miles and 3200 feet in just over 3 hours. Moral of the story, stay off slippy duck baords and don't worry about getting your X-tallons dirty!

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Handed out a few flyers at today's Stanbury Splash - great to see so many of our forumite friends in the pub all looking forward to March 17th. Dave and Eileen certainly know how to organise a fell race; not just the run itself, but the buzz, fun, top class field, and spirit of the sport. Gives us something to aim for.
It seems there's some demand for another recce, for those who are new to the route and a social training run for everyone else. Was thinking of Sunday 3rd of March - how does that sound???

I've put it my diary provisionally, Trig, until a decision's made, but I'm up for it. I'll be taking it easy though as it's only 6 days before the Wuthering Hike.

Got home yesterday, packed for marshalling the 4 Villages, then checked my emails - it was cancelled for the first time ever. Snow on the back lanes. Those road runners don't like it up 'em, do they?

If 4 villages is rescheduled I wonder if might have a go...whats the plan?
Besides FRA forum, and race website, the Heptonstall Fell Race Facebook is a good place to also find out about the recce, maps etc ; hope to get something up on here today....

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Blimey - had nt realised how much powder had fallen today; 4 of us just did a magnificent 8-10 mile head torcher from Heptonstall, down into Colden Woods (Nania!), up to the New Delight (had a beer), PBW then up to Moorcock Lane down Dukes Cut, and back via Edge lane -1 foot of snow everywhere, snow 2 metres deep on all the tracks above Blackshawhead - Dukes Cut had disappeared completely, filled in with snow drifts, so we had to run in the fields. Was enjoying the endless virgin snow when I went over on my shoulder (now can't lift my right arm) hope its nothing serious as I need to get back out there tomorrow.

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
You're developing somewhat of a snow running addiction Trig! I've made a mental note of the 3rd. Hoefully there'll be no need of duckboards by then. Mind you, I can fall over a blade of grass on occasion - no need of icy mud.
